Sweet ride.

Surely you code the airbags back on when you use her on the street. Riiight?

That's how you properly mod
a car. 👍. Perfect pairing of the GS1R and the Essex AP BBK.

I also think you should put your thread here.

I found Alex from Alpine on the M3 boards.

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...light=euro+mdm

He programmed a few things for me including:

GTS EPS (Electronic Power Steering) *Stiffens steering for better control/handling with more advance power assist.
GTS Traction Control *Givens more slip in MDM and allows better traction control settings (you can select this or euro MDM not both)
GTS Differential *Allows for better take off from the line and better control on turns.

He charged $100 and did it remotely..

Great guy and work!

Curious about the EPAS tuning, the stock EPAS is horrible, did the GTS tune make a difference in how natural the steering feels?

How did you mount your inside lap belts for the 6 point and 3 point? Can you put up a photo?

Very cool...

And speaking of cool, is there a specific reason you upgraded the cooling on the car? It’s the one aspect I’ve never had an issue with, no matter the ambient temp.

I used Alex as well. Very professional and easy to work with.

Someone asked about the airbags - only the seat airbags (and associated warnings) are turned off. The front airbags are still on for street use.

Well, I'm throwing the DCT cooler on as I've heard of people having issues with it on track. I figured while I have the front end apart, might as well add a margin of safety with larger heat exchangers and an intercooler. The car will eventually get a mild tune, but I want to see how it puts the power down with the new configuration first.

I'm a big fan of overbuilding everything. I always start with the prep work before the performance work.

I'll try and grab some tonight.

I used floor mount adapters from VAC Motorsports (https://store.vacmotorsports.com/rac...-m2-p4788.aspx) along with their belt mount kit for both the lap belts and the sub belts.

On the inside bracket, the factory plug is attached. Honestly though, it's not the best setup for the factory belt as I can't fit the plug on the inside of the seat.

This car doesn't really get driven much on the street, though, so I'm not overly concerned. I might pull the factory belts at some point and just use the 6-points only.

Edit: actually, I have a pic on my computer at work. You can kinda tell from the pic how the mounts work.

Here’s how I did mine. I had to put the VAC lap belt mounts on top as supposed to the bottom of the floor adapter. Had to do this because in order to unbolt the slider, I have to remove the lap belt mounts and slide the seat all the way toward the rear in order to expose the bolts in the front. If the lap belt mounts were on the bottom, I wouldn’t be able to do that.

According to a NASA (the space people), an 8mm bolt with 1/2” depth in 6061 aluminum has a pull out force of 4000lbs. Per my calculations, that’s good enough for a 70G crash. But I’m still not crazy about the mount being on top.

This is the passenger side. My driver side is actually 10mm closer to the tunnel and the seat is absolutely perfectly centered to the wheel.

I use a 2016 X5 rear seat buckle with an adjustable seat belt extender for the last belt. I added rubber bumpers to keep the slider from smashing into the lap belt mounts. Slider travel is limited for both sides but probably enough for someone up to 6ft. I’m only 5-8.

I don't run sliders on these seats as I need/want the headroom, so bolt clearance wasn't really an issue. I also have the seats pretty far back.

I had similar issues centering the seats as well. Agreed that the drivers side is closer to the tunnel as well. Was a little disconcerting when putting that in as it "felt wrong". Eventually I got it worked out as it's the shape of the center console and tunnel. Whatever - thanks for making it harder than it needed to be, BMW.

Still, though, the M2 cockpit feels enormous next to my GT3RS. However, my '06 STi race car feels cavernous compared to both.

Are yours on top like mine? Or under the floor adapter? Or were you able to get under the factory Torx bolt? A photo would be great still!

I started with VAC side mounts but I was just a bit short of center to the wheel. These side mounts are the Sparco QRT specific mounts and they were bent at a perfect 90 unlike the VACs. I think that is why I was able to get further over to center the wheel.

When my roll cage guy finally gets me in, I’m gonna have him drill through the floor/tunnel and give me real anchor points for the 6 point.

They are top side, like yours. The sub-bracket in the rear also made it difficult to mount under the brackets. I was also limited by rear-ward spacing due to how far back I have the seats mounted.

I'll get better pics of the belt mounts themselves tonight.

I haven't spent a ton of time on them due to the current temps plus r-compounds, but they are extremely well built and utilize high-quality components. With the limited amount of driving I've done on them, they feel well controlled and balanced - though fairly stiff. I really need temps to be above 45 to test them out, however.

I'll swap the factory wheels/tires back on at some point and shake the car down a bit. However, traction is always limited in this little machine and it makes it hard to really push this suspension on the street. I don't feel like I'll get any hard evidence until I get it on track in the spring.

80N Front, 140N Rear. Trying to keep it civilized on the street but still firm and controlled on track.
