Looking to trade in my F90 M5 for the M2 Competition
Getting bored with my M5 and thinking of trading it for the new M2 competition while waiting for the new M3... please tell me I am doing the right thing! 😅 When I went to the M tour, every time it felt like the M2 was the most special and fun car on their lot. Either way, I thought, it only worth it to get it in manual! What do you guys think?

Ummm...yes.
I do own an M2C manual, but have never driven the M5 so my opinion should be completely disregarded. |

Depends on your current garage and use of the car, is it your only car or is it pure fun? Comfort and luxury are on another level in the M5 vs more basic and more fun in the M2 in a smaller package. |

I own both - M5C and M2C.
They are different animals all together. It really depends on what you want out of the car. I daily driver my M5C, and my M2C is one of my track cars / weekend fun cars. While the M2C is great, it just doesn’t compare to the civility and outright brutish speed of the M5C. Honestly, if I had to pick just one, I’d actually pick the M5. While the M2 is more “fun” for short sprints, the M5 is simply usable every day for every activity. |

I think you will be surprised at the decrease level of refinement if you move to the M2C. The materials simply are not of a higher quality than the M5 (not saying M2C is bad, but just at a different level).
But your enjoyment on a twisty road and the interactions with a 6 speed will surely increase.

I dont own an M5C or an M2C, but I would not do this. The M5 is handsome, very refined, extremely powerful and has AWD. It's the perfect year round luxury sports sedan while the m2 is much better in the dry and is not a year round sports car. If the M5 is your primary vehicle, I definitely wouldn't switch it up for an M2C especially if you have kids. Just my .02 cents. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I haven't driven an m5 but I hear they're much nicer on a daily basis than the m2c.
Personally, I think the m2c is nice ENOUGH to not bother me, but everyone is going to draw that line in their own place. If the M2c falls on the right side of that line, I say go for it. The car will reward you. If it doesn't? No judgement, there are plenty of really awesome cars I would never want to be my main car as well. |

You again? Don't you have anything better to do than bring up the S55 sound on every single thread possible?
While I've never driven a newer M5, I absolutely love my M2 Comp. It's definitely not the nicest car I've ever been in, and the interior isn't up to par with the sticker price, but you forget about all of that when driving it. I will say that in the cold / wet, the M2 hates 1st and 2nd gear. It all depends on what you want to get out of the vehicle. Ultimately, just go and drive an M2C and see if it's what you want. |

I can see someone going from M3/M4 to M2C and being satisfied but the step down from M5 to M2C is much, much bigger. If the OP spends a lot of time commuting I'm not exactly sure he will be happy in the long run. As said above the gap in refinement and interior quality is Grand Canyon sized and I think people get too caught up in track numbers for daily drivers. The M2C will feel great for a short time after initially getting it but over time the flinty interior, harsher ride, and being slower from light to light and pretty well everywhere else will elicit thoughts of regret.

I think the M2C is one of the best drivers cars in the past decade. It's sublime. With that said, you're nuts. Keep the M5 & mod it.

I have the regular M2, but it's a full stage 2 tuned car so its comparable to the M2C performance wise. I drove my friends M5C and I was sincerely blown away. The acceleration is astoundingly brutal (in a good way) and it handles extremely well fir a car that size. I think the trade off just isnt there. If I could afford the M5C I would do that everyday and twice on Sundays over the M2. Just my opinion. The M5C is a better car in every way. The only thing I like better about the M2 is its flared hips. The M5Cs lines arent as nice.

I drive m2c daily... my father has an m5c. Both are great cars, we’ve driven both extensively. With that being said I live in the city and my parents live in the burbs. I would highly recommend each car for those specific areas respectively. The m2c is for having fun in every second it’s being driven, in fairly close proximity to home...The m5c is capable of that plus taking long trips in comfort. If my wife an I travel, we take the x5 instead.
That also being said... last personal bimmer I had was a 2016 m6 comp. I much prefer my modded m2c in almost every way minus the cheapie interior. My car has MPS and Akrapovic exhaust just FYI. Good luck, IMO you can’t lose either way! Last edited by btbossman; 11-27-2019 at 07:27 PM.. |

lol, sounds like there is more pro keep the M5. I guess I will do that!😅
The M5 is not my daily, it’s just my fun car and gets me from point a to point b when I am not at work. Looks like the M2C is not going to be any faster on any of the tracks we have in Canada at least. Maybe it is a better idea to keep the M5 and mod it as someone mentioned here! On a big minus side, I really miss the manual and the M5 Base is not comfortable at all unless you live somewhere with perfect roads... I would actually try and figure out how to make the suspension softer as it is unnecessarily harsh... the m5 competition is jaw breaking and I don’t understand people who say otherwise.🤪 As for the fake interior sound, I think M2C and M5 are very close from inside the car, as both of them make some type of speaker sound when accelerating. 😂 For that we have the acrapovic exhaust which sadly cost an arm and a leg. |

I own a manual m2 competition and have driven the m5 competition. I thought the m5 was awful. The only thing that was great was the sound of the v8 and the gun shots that fired out of the exhaust. The m2 is so balanced and has "just enough" power to not land you in jail. If you want the best of both worlds get a c63s coupe which is an absolute monster if manual transmission isn't a must. It is easily one of the best cars I've ever owned and I will get another one soon.
