Ceramic Coating Brands

Is there much difference in ceramic coating brands? I cant seem to find this anywhere online. I found some posts about the best DIY kits, mostly about their ease of install but I don't plan on attempting this myself.

When I talk to professional detaliers I see CeramicPro, 22PLE and Xpel Fusion+. There doesn't seem to be much information about these online. Does anyone have experience with these? If I choose the ultimate version of one of these, is there really much difference?

Oh, and I'm planning on putting this over a full wrap of Xpel Ultimate+

None of us really know or have the tools, equipment, and testing capabilities to definitively find out. Every manufacturer will tell you why theirs is the best, but honestly, i think they are all about the same. Kind of like automotive paint. Who's the best? Who knows. I think a lot of it comes down to ease of application and since you are paying someone else to apply, just find a pro you are comfortable with, who has good reviews, and go with whatever he recommends.

Keep in mind, every ceramic coating takes some sort of maintenance. They all degrade and disappear over time so keeping up with an easy to apply ceramic based top coat to "refresh" your professionally applied base coating is key. So maybe go with a product that your installer can professionally apply, but has an ecosystem of DIY friendly refresher coatings that you can apply every 4 to 6 months.

I installed Geyon MOHS 3 years ago and keep up on it with their refresher products like can-coat every 6 months or so. The base coating is still doing its job and shedding water and dirt like a MOFO.

So long story short, dont get hung up on which one is "perfect." They are all pretty good. Just pull the trigger and you'll be glad you did.

i doubt there are more than two labs that produce all the coatings. i wouldn't stress it too much, but don't go with one you saw on tv either.

Anyone have experience with Always Dry Extreme? A local detailer (with perfect reviews) uses it. The other alternative is Feynlab Heal Lite.

I had Modesta BC08 applied to the paint and BC06 on the wheels, calipers and exhaust on my F90. Great stuff.

I think the most important factor isn't the coating itself but the detailer who does it. My strategy was to find a detailer I was comfortable with and then find the coating that he was most comfortable with. That ended up being OptiCoat for me, and I had the Pro Plus version done (which comes with a 7-year warranty). I'm over two years out and my paint looks exactly how it looked the day I bought the car. People constantly ask if the car is brand new. All I do for maintenance is hand wash it myself every 2 weeks and use a sealant (which doubles as a drying aid making the whole process even easier).

there are some great products out there for sure, if you plan on using a DIY product I would go with a reseller that can walk you thru it.

if you go with a pro installed product make sure your installer is trust worthy and will educate you on the products that they install.

if you trust the installer you should be able to trust his/her coating suggestion.

In our shop we use Fictech/Nanolex/Modesta

Yep, this is great stuff. Unfortunately I have to re-coat my car this weekend. The local dealership ran it through their BBQ Grill Scrapper they call a car wash.

NEFan508, I just purchased that same spray to try on my wife's BRZ and my Tacoma. Interested to see how it holds up.

It's not bad but definitely not great, more of a meh product I guess, honestly I can't see a difference... for the price and ease of application why not?

notes: I did not do clay bar or polish per the label insulation

Just giver er a bath, dry then apply, I'm satisfied with the results

2nd note: her x5 is a lease so it go's in machine wash, my m2 is hand washed only (long term keeper for the miller clan)

Real test will be on my work trucks?!?! Both black same spec both get dirty from asphalt tar/road construction dust

2nd edit: ya, it's not bad on a black truck too

I used the Turtle Wax hybrid solutions ceramic spray on my wife's BRZ. It hasn't been waxed or coated in a few years so I did a clay bar on everything (some panels twice) to prep it. I did two coats (waiting 24 hours in between) in order to get the 12 months of protection. I think it came out great and I would rather apply this than traditional waxes any day. Now I will keep an eye on it and see how well it holds up.

Has anyone looked into graphene coatings? I've yet to see much in the way of comparisons between ceramic and graphene.

I did order a bottle of the new Zymol Atomic Graphene Shield (https://www.zymol.com/zymlatomicgrapheneshield.aspx) to try out -- although it's not a true coating, more of a post wash sealant/detailer.

Funny you mention it. This week I’m going to strip off the CSL/Exo4 and replace with graphene. Nothing wrong with the CSL but just want to try something different while I wait out 2020 in my home. Went with the Adam’s brand this time. It also comes with a nifty UV light so you can see where the coating is applied.

Happy to report that I'm very pleased with the graphene coating. I went with the Adam's brand this time and we'll see on longevity, but in terms of glossiness, it blows away everything that I've used previously. The other plus side is it's so easy to apply and can be used on trim pieces and glass.

I will say this, if you have CSL it's an awesome coat. It was a bitch to remove and it's been on the car for 2 years. I have no doubt it'll last 5 years as they claim.

Here is a pic of the hydrophobic properties. The wheels aren't yet coated so you can see the foam sticks on there pretty well. However, foam doesn't stick too well to the coated paint surface.

Foam party is over, but so far loving the results.
