Cool Owners keeping the original M2

With the abundance of posts about people trading in their car to wait for something very possibly not as good. Wondering if there are owners that feel like keeping their original M2?

In my opinion it has nothing to do with being able to afford it or not.
Having more than enough to go for M2 Comp CS or CSL or whatever, but I am keeping the original 2016 M2.

It was the M2 I wanted in 2016 and it is still the one I want.
Back in 2016, I knew it was the right formula (power, chassis) for the car (Similar to the 1M) not to mention the looks and amazing sound.
Planned to keep the power stock, drive it til the wheels come off and then drive some more.

Now a days people can't help themselves but to be followers. They have to own the newest stuff even if the new product isn't better than the last generation. Watch how fast they trade this new one in when the next next one comes out.

With this new design direction they are taking, not only will this next car be bad aural wise, it will be inferior when it comes to looks.

Also, with the added power, characteristics of the S55 and same wheel base, the results on handling will not necessarily be welcomed, unless you're just a straight line racer of course.

A lot of times the OG is the best.
Why would anyone want to trade down?

Edit:

Well look at that. After the reveal, everything said still holds true. Looks, sound and balance.

Apparently this is the last M car with the original kidney grills not connected to anything.
It's either connected to the headlights or the new KIA grill now.

For the people who traded, congrats and get driving. You know, cause you need to trade it in when the CSL comes out.

I'll be enjoying my OG for a long long time.

There are already a few threads about this subject. I bought my M2 because it’s simply the best car for the money. If it was above the $65k I would have bought a clean 997tt instead.

I’m with you. I don’t need more horse power and the car handles and looks great. I have zero plans of getting rid of it any time soon.

I am so intrigued by what the styling will look like.

I absolutely love the current M2 styling. The only thing I would have changed is the mirrors and the bonnet (a powerdome would have been sick).. but otherwise, it's just beautiful.

The new grille designs seen on other BMWs now... those I'm not so sure about. So it will be interesting to see what the M2 Comp looks like. I still think it'll look mean, but yeah, I tend to agree with you that newer doesn't necessarily mean better.

In terms of the overall car and whether original beats the Comp... for me it's precisely to Nomade's point... I am at my price limit at $54,500. Any higher and I just can't get there. So good luck to those who are lucky enough to have a Comp, but I'm happy, and so is my bank balance.

I'm keeping mine. I won't notice the extra power in So Cal traffic. Also on track, the extra power just means it'll take a few more yards for those pesky miatas and s2ks to pass me =(

I am sure whatever the they do to it will be an improvement. But as many have said, for the additional price I'd jump ship and get a Cayman.

The walk-away-smiling factor hasn't even begun to erode ...

I've only had mine for 13 months and 3600 miles. No way I'd get rid of it anytime soon, the fun's just begun!

I have 600 miles on my car in my 2 months of ownership... we’ve talked about what’s the next car for me... but it’s not an M2 nor a BMW.... most likely a 911 turbo. But that’s probably a few years away... I’m still happy with the M2.

I will be keeping my MY2017 for a very long time. Every M car is special. I think people get too caught up in always wanting the latest iteration.

I think the type of person that goes on the internet and tells people what new unreleased car they want to buy, is the same type of person that would turn in a 1-2 year old car that they "loved" a month ago, just to be able to wait in line for the newest version that they have never seen official marketing material for.

I'm happy with my blue beauty.

I got my M2 Christmas 17.

I am just getting started with this car.

The character of the current car is so special I really could care less about the CS.

I purposely bought mine before they switch to the S55 lump, for my own reasons of better perceived reliability, better sound, and - hell - better-looking stock exhaust tips. And the S55 version will cost more while almost certainly not being any more fun to pilot on the streets.

Plus I think the M2 looks fantastic now so they are bound to screw it up (such as potentially putting an ugly new grille on its nose). And I had waited long enough for a new car this time & wasn't about to wait another year. So, yeah, I'm keeping her for the long term.

Anyone has any specs on the S55 motor in the upcoming M2? What does "downtune" S55 mean to BMW exactly?

The new M2 LCI with the S55 motor will be a massive improvement over the current set up; I mean two turbos over one, 'nuff said. I predict 3.9 second from 0 - 60 Mph stock, if there is prefect traction.

As far as trading from the current version, I wouldn't bother; the current motor is perfect for the segment this vehicle represents and also the new car with similar options is going to cost at least another $7,000 over the ongoing model's MSRP (someone has to pay for that extra turbo), not to mention the all the unreasonable dealer mark ups.

Now if you could swing it financially, I would go for it. This vehicle is destined to be a classic; it's similar to what BMW did with 335i in 2007 and with a tune and IC; it embarrassed the V8 M3s (I have videos)...

Me personally, I would lose over $15,000 in deprecation for my 2016 235i, thanks to BMW's horrible dip in value, in the last couple of years. So I'll pass but I will keep salivating with videos on YouTube; they're free, minus the commercials...

My plan is to live with the original M2 until G generation M3/4 starts to dominate. That's when I move up to a 992, maybe even a little sooner.

Original can match comp on power if you don't mind engine mod. It can produce up to 450whp on pump gas with hybrid turbo and spool as fast if not faster than S55 and drives 100% stock. Granted if you want more than that, go for s55 much less hassle. But S55 in no way can sound as good as original, that's a given.

It’s like trading your hot girlfriend for one that is marginally better looking. If you are going to make a trade make sure You are moving to like Gisele or Gigi.

I just returned from the Chicago Autoshow and I can say, at least for me, there is no car that competes with the M2. The RS3 interior was so horrific it wasn't even funny (let's get a can of flat black spray paint and just paint it all said the interior designer - oh and don't forget the uglyass vents front and center!). The M2 has an incredible sound (for a 6 cyl), the best interior in its price range, and to me, looks the best -both interior and exterior. The Mustangs and Camaro's were also dark and at least in terms of the Camaro, claustraphobic. The M2 has it all and like I said, try as I might, I could not find anything close to it..

But now... on to the OPs comments

I think you are generalizing here. I didn't leave the M2 because I wanted something newer (of course, nothing wrong with that), I did it because the lack of adjustable suspension, two doors and and overly aggressive rev match programming wore on me. It just wasn't the right car for me or where I live. Minor gripes with BMW NA (thank you Jim Kelly) not allowing the sunroof for the first two years - yea, you showed them Jim...NOT

Why would anyone what to trade down?
Last time I checked, the car was not out. You are speculating just like everyone else on this board. Nobody knows what the CS will be like and those that say "I'm getting rid of my M2 and getting a CS", well the proof is in the pudding - let's see their CS! Cause nobody is getting nothin, until that damn thing is released
