They were like "yeah but..." And I was like "okay, do I need to film myself driving by your dealership with the brake shields making a noise like my exhaust is dragging behind the car and explaining on the video that the dealer refuses to fix the issue on a new 50k+ BMW even though I have documented the issue and have supplied the dealer with the updated part number, and then post this video on the forums and car blogs for your future customers to see? Then I get a phone call from BMW this was all a big misunderstanding, please take down the video they will fix it under warranty? Is that how this is going to go down?" They then said they would do me a favor and fix it without having their tech repro the issue this one time. I held my tongue that they were not doing me a favor, that they should just fix it when it's a well known issue and I had documented it already on video. Have not heard the soda crunch sound since they installed the new brake shields... |

My dealer is brilliant right now, which does not give you any assurance for the future but at least they did what I asked and answered my questions professionally. I am really happy with them right now. All fine so far, and I am number 1 for both the M2 CS and the rumored M2 GTS.
For record, no noise so far! Nothing... MR |

I complained about this last week when I took it in for scheduled oil change.
They said they can't do anything to fix it but they can get any rocks out that are currently in it. I said ok. They called me the next day and said there's an upgrade kit to the rotor shield that is closer to the rotor that prevents the rocks and said that they've done a few of these and none of them came back with more complaints. So far? I haven't heard the "crunch" or the REALLY loud scraping sounds, but I do occasionally hear a slight rubbing/brushing sound from the back right rotor. I haven't looked into what's causing yet, but it's still a vast improvement over stock. |

Still havent had my backing plates done, waiting on some other bits to come in... anyway I was thinking... for me the noise typically comes from the left, serrated says right so are we both talking passenger side? My car is right hand drive. Would make sense that small stones and debris is more prevalent on the passenger side. Can anyone else comment?

My car hit the dealer lot on Thursday March 16th & I bought it on 3/25. I thought it would've been built with the new shields/plates but no. I had a pebble in it within the first week. It fell out on the way to the dealer to have it looked at. I currently have pebbles in both rear plates. I'm just going to call them within a couple of weeks of my 1200 mi service to order the replacements.

Since it was fitted, no problems whatsoever. I have not driven a lot, but so far no noises.

I've posted on this before in this thread with no replies. I'm still wondering what the pebble is scraping and if that isn't causing some sort of damage. Anybody?

Can anyone confirm that they've had this issue and/or had the dealer fix it on a 2017 production date car? When I picked up my week 8 build, the dealer said the issue was addressed from the factory for anything built in 2017. Not entirely convinced...

My car was built Oct 29 2016 I think but it's a MY17 car. It had the issue and was fixed with the new brake shields. Heard the noise a lot before the fix, not once after.

About damn time my nearly $80k (after upgrades/tax) bimmer stops sounding like a total beater. Also, I feel the need to plug my dealership. Baron BMW (in Kansas City suburbs on the Kansas side) has been really top-notch as far as customer service goes. |

You mentioned doing 7000 miles in Feb? And touted 1200 miles/month so yours would likely be built in 2016 as a 2017 model year. |

Correct. My dealer said anything with a production date this year doesn't need the parts replaced. I'm still skeptical, but I don't drive a ton and rarely on roads with many loose rocks. So I've never experienced it, but would obviously like to get the new parts if they're needed.

I've experienced this a few times last summer but nothing so far since I pulled the car out of hibernation until today. Has anybody experienced this lasting longest than just a quick crunch wound? Mine lasted for about 10 minutes off and on. I made a video and will post later.
