How does it sound so much better than the M3? This is crazy.

Both are turbocharged straight sixes, but the M2 sounds heavenly!

Intake is different from M235i...

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1183416

Frank Isenberg, M2 Project manager, says in an interview with EVO that the intake is less restrictive than in the M235i (and in the link above the air intake is described as "aerodynamically tuned"

Whether the higher intake sound in the video is ASD or intake related I have no clue about...

Good question. The one major difference between the F8x and M2 is that the exhaust on the F8x is a dual system all the way from the turbos and back to the rear muffler, while the M2 has a single exhaust all the way from the turbo to the rear muffler.

There are one or two aftermarket exhausts for the F8x that also use a single exhaust and that changes the tone of the exhaust quite a bit.

The E46 M3 also has that metallic raspy sound the F8x has, which other straight six BMW's doesn't really have. E46 also has a dual exhaust system...

Maybe the question is, why did you think it was identical to the 235s intake in the first place? In the same way you thought the engine was largely the same, or do you have a source of this misinformation?

Some N54 cars, including the 335, also have dual all the way.

This could also be originating up in the heads...so there may never be a true "cure".

No. I think what we are seeing is a photo with the headlights on. Didn't you notice Artemis awesome pics of M235i instruments vs M2 gauges. Look at the last two pics of M2 gauges. When the headlights are on... that fuel gauge needle turns red, due to the dash/instrument lights being red at night.

Doesn't the dual exhaust N54 have a exhaust sound that sounds more like the F8x (especially with an aftermarket exhaust)?

And a N54 335i with a custom 3" single exhaust (in my opinion, the single exhaust car sounds much more like a N55/M2 than the dual exhaust N54 335i's)

Didn't you see the news story about the F16 flying low over NYC the other day? That was the pilot, swooping in to ask him what # his 1M was and if they could trade for the day.

Could be, but that wheel linked does not have alcantara. Will keep waiting and see what comes out, but thank you!

Hm, the lower part of the M Performance Steering Wheel for the M2 has a ± flat/horizontal shape instead of a circular shape.

Is it confirmed that this video is the stock exhaust? It's clearly a BMW test car, but some have been seen testing with the M Performance exhaust.

RE: Dual exhaust N54 vs. S55...

Hmmm...you may be onto something then.

And yeah, that OP's vid sounds and AWFUL lot like an N55 on BMW's PE. If that's the stock, great!

I think it sounds great!
Lately I've been finding my 1M a bit too quiet at idle... It's fun to remember back to my first test drive though when I said to myself, "this sounds amazing, I'll never need it any louder!"
