If the car is what you configure it to be, then I guess the dealer has the right to make the deposit in refundable since it's like you customize your own car. And I hope Bmw will do that for us. My deposit is in and hopefully to hear more info as soon as possible.

Town and Country BMW, (Markham, Ontario), just called me and said the price is going to be $65,000. He said they did not officially release the price but they are 90% sure that is the price.

He asked if I would like to come in for a deposit.

At that price, im going to have to hold off. I was really hoping for under 60k, especially with no M specific engine or seats...

I hope their information is wrong though.

That's interesting because the eastern regional rep for BMW Canada didn't know pricing so it's great they do

I think we all need to wait until info is officially released. Especially because he wasn't sure and a $10,000 reduction over an M4 makes zero sense relative to the variance in the US market (unless his price was a DCT car).

They would just sell a lot of M3/4 if there was only a $10k difference.

I hope their information is wrong as well. Seems highly unlikely. If the goal was to make it an entry level M for younger audience to pick up and move up into future models, that price wouldn't be the way to do it. If it really is 65k it just seems like the people shopping for 1 would be the same people cross shopping from m3/4 and m2, and not a new audience. Halfway point between m235i and m4 is 59K CAD.

this cant be right:

at the rumored 51K USD price, the M2 in the US costs $6,850 USD more than the M235
at the Town & Country 65K CDN price, the M2 in Canada costs 20,000 CDN more than the M235

1 + 1 does not = 2 here

That 65k might include a dealer markup.

While not the best way to get the estimated price, just take a 235 and add every package available. Doing that puts the car at 58k, make it 60k base for M2, then add a 5k markup...

+1 that's what I heard as well.

10-12k off the price of an m4, but I also expect the cost of the m4 to go up $1500 similar to the jump between 2015-2016 x6 (and others).

I doubt it is only 10k difference

You can get some good discount for m4
Make no sense to get m2 if that is indeed true

Let's wait and see

Do you know what kind of discounts are being offered on the m4? And what dealer in specific?

Two completely different cars and target audiences.

Very few people will cross-shop the two IMO.

you could be right im only referring to myself... i just want a car built for the driver...right now i am ready to buy and i have it narrowed down to the gt350, caymen, or M2, just waiting for price of the M2 ...up until now i had been set on the M2 but no matter how i envisioned it i never expected a 65k starting price so that has me looking at these other options i think some executives at BMW Canada might be assuming incorrectly that a highly inflated M2 price will just move people into the M3/M4 market

I don't understand why people are surprised if the base price turns out to be $65,000 CDN.The price of the M235i performance edition that BMW Canada brought into Canada last year was $60,000 CDN and that car was basically just a cosmetic upgrade over the M235i.

special edition with a premium price tag IMO...i still cant justify the 20K gap between M2 and M235i when the gap is under 7K in the US, im still surprised if this 65K rumor is true

Just saw this section.

I heard from BMW Group Canada that price would be ~$62K almost fully loaded ( minus DCT and some of the options not typically in packages ).

Also, I discussed with dealer ( Parkview ) about their pricing. In Canada, they can't sell above MSRP, unless the vehicle is bought and sold as used. Parkview's price estimate was $65k but it was admitted to be a guess only. If they can't sell above MSRP, they may try to bump up PDI, admin etc to get you.

In terms of pricing, $62 or $65, anything can change between now and when it becomes official, so take it with a grain of salt.

I did put down a deposit which was fully refundable ( even if I leave the BMW brand ) and the spot is fully transferable to someone else if I wish ( I guess I could sell my spot and make a profit? )

In terms of discounts, my feeling is that, unfortunately, with the limited numbers going around Canada, and the fact that you have to get "in-line" in with a dealer, that takes away a lot of your bargaining power to get anything off MSRP. I think we are paying MSRP. What can we do? Go to another BMW dealer? We are kind of trapped. If we don't go with them, there will likely be a line-up for those wanting our spots.

So possible discounts are:
  • BMW Loyalty?
  • BMW friends/family deals? If you know anyone working with them
  • BMW Trillium Club ( 2% off - I better request this letter soon ), but you have to be a member for over a year
  • BMW MDrive event discount on M's?

I hope you are right but this seems VERY low for an almost loaded car. That would put it more than $30,000 lower than a loaded M4. I'd love to see that much of a spread but seems too good to be true. If a loaded M4 is ~$95,000, then I can't imagine a loaded M2 is much less than $75,000... but here is to hope

If I'm betting (which is all anyone can do today), I have to imagine the car LOADED would be in the $70,000 range... i.e. a fully loaded M2 approaching the bare bones base price of an M3.

No updates from me.

I think that those of us on the lists will be contacted ASAP when the dealer has the pricing info. They want to close as many sure fire/quick deals as possible.

Right now, with my name on a list, I'm not concerned about early price leaks and pricing until the real the info arrives and I can start making a deal.
