The current seats in M2 probably weigh a ton and leather is not the best material for track and durability. They could have put alcantara inserts. I would bet the two front seats weigh over 100lbs. |

The M2 is more beautiful than the M3 or M4.
The M2 is more beautiful than the M3 or M4.
Does anyone else agree? The car just looks more proportionate and suited to be a sports auto... The lines, the width, the width.... the short roofline... The front looks just perfect to an M aero treatment. The M3 and M4 just look less beautiful at this point. This by no means says anything else about what I know about the car. I have not driven the new M3 or M4, and I cannot imagine how they would compare to the new M2. |

That's the sound of the M2 whether you like it or not. The fact that you think it's an s65 is really just you liking the exhaust note. I agree, it sounds awesome |

And you know I wouldn't BS you because I'm still an M2 supporter, so you really gotta relax man. Hell, I don't know if any of you guys have seen the newest Mission Impossible or not. It was clearly an F80 driving through the streets of Morocco, but they dubbed the whole chase scene over with the S65 there too. P.S. I've also heard the N55T in real life too. So again, calm down.

edit: Maybe you're right. Now that I've watched it a few times over and over it sounds a little throatier in the launch film. I still think there's a chance that it's just the M2 being revved much harder in the launch film. The fundamental sound is close. |

Personally, I think it's stupid that they overlaid S65 sounds in that launch video as well. Absolutely no need because the M2 is a wonderful sounding car. Not to derail the thread too much, but listen to this video:

They may have enhanced the sound in some way but I find it hard to believe that they add the sound from another car in a official video for a new car. They are not that stupid.

I agree with the post above, its probably real M2 sound but enhanced. I don't think they would dub it in its own launch video. And I don't think it sounds exactly like an s65. |

No offense to W, but I also agree with adem here. I hear it sound more like the autobild video than the M3. I'm sure everyone's ear opinion is slightly different though... The M3 as always sound amazing, now so does the M2. Both sounds miles better than the F8Xs. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough as the video reviews roll in. Also I think a movie sound over is one thing. To put a fake sound in a launch video for the specific car is just not plausible. Last edited by OG///M; 10-15-2015 at 01:26 PM.. |

We'll agree to disagree then.
When that M2 comes out of the pits, the induction sound of the S65 is unmistakable to me. It is literally like no other sound from any BMW's.

I agree with you on this one.. those initial revs sound like s65 revs to me. There's some hint at augmented induction noise on track, too - similar to the s65.

agree to disagree, but I just don't think it sounds anything like the s65 in the video you posted. I listened to 'ring videos again, and it sounds exactly like it does in the launch film. idk. I just hear the same sound in the launch film as in the autobild revving vid, just pushed harder. Time will tell I guess once reviewers get the car. More waiting

Like I said before, if you prefer the M2, go for it. On the street, in the hands of 95% of the people on this forum, performance will be right up there with the M4, and you'll save several thousand dollars in the process. I still think it's ridiculous that a car this much smaller than the M4 comes in at a curb weight that is only 25-30 lbs less. I don't like large cars either, but it's not simply an aesthetic concern for me. I don't like large cars because large cars also tend to be heavy.

I don't know what BMW did to the video, but there's a ton of audio processing going on. Fortunately, the N55 is a very deep and throaty sounding engine. More so than the S55, interestingly, so I'm sure it will sound great. You will not, however, be hearing any of that induction pulse that's so prevalent in the video.

More support for my point: The E46 M3 had a 107" wheelbase (2" longer), but still had a curb weight of 3,415 lbs. It's been 16 years since that car was introduced, yet we're being sold a dimensionally similar car that is heavier. In a sports car — where weight is everything — that is the very definition of ridiculous; worthy of ridicule. There have been many technological developments that enable BMW to make a lighter sports car. They don't because it's not a priority. It's not a priority because the market doesn't demand it.

No, the M2 will not be limited in numbers. But that doesn't mean it will be easy to get your hands on one.

Do you think the exhaust note in the launch trailer is just s65 sound dubbed over, or is it genuine M2. I find it very hard to believe BMW would fake the sound in front of enthusiast crowd with one of the most famous exhaust notes.
