I put myself on BMW Minnetonka's list (I'm #8) but I barely saw the point. I want my M2 to be optioned how I want it, not just whatever the dealer gets. There's almost zero chance of them receiving well-optioned six-speeds in LBB, so I'll be saying "no" pretty often I'm sure.

Not to mention European delivery. I need a vacation anyway.

When it is your turn won't the dealer contact you and see how you want the car ordered?? That is how I thought it worked.

I'm number 5 in line and I will be doing European Delivery. So when the time comes to place the order I will tell the dealer how I want the vehicle spec'd.

They told me I could order one whenever they got the order sheets in. The list I put myself on (the only one they had) was an unofficial call list that basically says they will call you when they get an M2 in, and you can either purchase it or pass on it. Then they call the next guy on the list.

There was no deposit to get on that list at all. If there was a list that promised me an actual allocation to order a customized M2 I would love to be on it. Maybe I need to shop around at more "in-the-know" dealerships. I always thought they fit the bill but maybe I was wrong.

I am on 2 lists, #1 at my local dealer and #2 at my ED specialist. Really considering if I can do black leather again though.

If they made an M3 Touring, absolutely. It would have been a done deal

I'm honestly not looking for all out power. The E36 has taught me that you don't need all that much power to have fun (nor do I need a lot of creature comfort). I took both M's to Cars and Coffee last Saturday, and my friend told me: E92 was a blast with the exhaust that sounded great, but the E36 was way more fun to drive at sane speeds.

Besides, I think the M2 will have more than enough power on its own. With just a bit of modding, it'll have no problem beating my E92 M3 with full catless exhaust and stage 2 tune. And that car is borderline unusable on the streets (if you want to keep a clean driving record).

I still think the Cayman GTS is the right car for you Bemo
Interesting perspective for sure.
Still on the sidelines until next year and yes the Cayman is on the short list but I am a BMW fanboy to a fault!!
How do you think we ended up with the GT? The wife wants a "comfortable Audi" and the only BMW that fit her requirements was the GT.
I want to drop the suspension and put an exhaust on it. She thinks I'm crazy and is probably right!

P.S. You can still do the ED in August and get an M2

When were you put on the list? i emailed them awhile ago and they told me I'm #9 so it would be interesting to see when you contacted them compared to me. BMW Minnetonka told me they don't do European Delivery on any M cars, and that "the list doesn't really matter" It was a very interesting experience with them.

It was around mid-June. I'm getting conflicting reports about ED on M cars. I was told it was possible, but .. you never really know what the truth is when you are talking with a salesman. (No offense to anybody out there)

Your signature says you are "on the list: m2 mineral gray/black" -- is this the same list I'm on? I didn't get to choose anything nor did they promise me that I'd have a choice. I need to figure this out sooner rather than later.

I didn't get to choose anything, that's just my ideal color. That is very interesting that they told you that you are #8, i was told i was #9 on the list at Minnetonka at the start of April, so we will see what happens with them.

I would not be surprised if he just said a number to appease me. It was a binder with some sheets of paper in it, if they dropped it they'd have no fucking clue what order they belong in.

I still don't understand how I'm #1 with a deposit placed 2 days ago in a wealthy NE market. I would recommend calling around before settling for anything above #5 etc.

I just came from my dealer, spoke to my CA and the general sales manager and I'm #1 on the call list. I was verbally told that I can come in and order to spec as soon as they get word everything is a go. I hope this works out as it's the first time I've ever done something like this.

My dealer in Manitoba, Canada has heard nothing about M2 in terms of allocation ect. I am the first they will call. With every major update on here, my advisor gets an email!

How does this allocation wait list thing work?

I called my CAs at some local (AutoNation) dealers and they tell me they don't have any information on the M2, when it is coming, or any information about allocations. They said they will call me once they find out.

It doesn't seem like they have a waitlist set up, or am I going about this the wrong way?

You need to get to the Sales Manager. You need to tell him the car is coming and you would like to give him a deposit, say $1,000, to be first in line to buy the car once it shows up in his system. In California deposits are refundable.
If he refuses to acknowledge the car or will not start a priority list, then find another dealer. Usually, if a dealer will not set up a priority list it's because he has favored customers or he thinks he'll get MSRP + for the car when it arrives.

At the dealer right now getting service done, I over heard the salesman I deal with speaking about just receiving new information about new models. Asked him about the m2 and said they will most likely start taking orders sometime next month since production is beginning in November. He stated the dealer hasn't received any pricing guides for the m2 yet and not much info other than the production date. I'm number two on the list here but it isn't an allocation or anything since where I live (Maui) it's rare for someone to purchase m cars so the list here is only for any and all information regarding the m2 that they will receive and forward to us on the list of "interested buyers".

So... let me hear what you guys think about this.

What I am happy about first: I got the #1 allocation at a smaller dealership nearby where I live! I put $2500 dollars down (refundable).

Now, what I'm unsure about: The deal had the car down as being sold for MSRP. However (and I understand this, coming from their position) they said since there is so much that is unknown about the car, that they can't guarantee that they will offer it for MSRP. Either way, they have me down as agreeing for MSRP, but are giving me the opportunity to walk away at any point... but said the car would be offered at whatever 'market price' is, because they don't know how limited or available it will be at this point.

Am I being paranoid? Or does it make sense? It does make sense for them, I guess, from a business perspective. They don't want to lock it in at MSRP when they know nothing official about the car. Thoughts? Do I try to get on another list, too?

What do you guys think the chances are that we'll see crazy mark ups?

This is basically what my CA said. His words were more along the lines of "if this car is not super limited, it will be sold at MSRP with slight negotiations, however if the car is limited like the 1M then it will be market adjusted." He then goes on to say, "it may be better for you if the car is super limited, so that it holds value like the 1M"....I think it's too early to panic at this point, at least until we hear something official from BMW. BTW, I am #2 on the list - the guy before me had his deposit down almost 12 months before me as he missed out on the 1M last time around!

That's BS. Tell him they lost all future business with you or anyone from your family and move on to the next dealership. Hint: This time, don't act so anxious about the car.

That's how I got my 1M.

I'm #3 at my dealership with a refundable deposit. I asked this very question about pricing before I agreed to place a deposit. I asked what I was agreeing to, to place a deposit, and they said "MSRP". I said, OK, I am agreeing to MSRP, however I decide to order it, and you will not mark it up? They said "No. the deal is for MSRP, and we will not mark it up". They then sent me preliminary paperwork in writing agreeing to MSRP, however I order the car, and even wrote "no market adjustment" on it. I'd ask for that if you are feeling a little paranoid.

My backup plan is like a lot of you.. F80 M3. At this point, without seeing any real pictures of production cars, I'm not sold on the limited colors and the single black interior. I'm sure the M2 will be great, but I'm looking at holding on to it for at least 10 years. I want to be ecstatic with my purchase, not just "happy". I would've paid for HUD and individual colors, if they were made available.
