Cops don't care. Parking enforcement will give you a ticket. Born and raised in LA. Had everything from honda civics to s2000s to 370z to M2. They look for the front plate when you're parked on the street.

I wouldn't admit I was from New York or live in CA.

I've driven in NorCal for 10 years without a front plate and never had an issue. I've had 2 speeding tickets and 2 parking tickets and no one cared. A few months back I went to the CHP office, pulled up in plain view of the front desk and they still didn't even mention it.

I drove my 128i with no front plate from 2008 to July of 2020. Only got one ticket from a rookie (literally first day on the street) LAPD officer in Westwood. Took 45 minutes for his partner to walk him through giving me the ticket for no front plate.

I went to the LAPD station in Marina del Rey a few weeks later, the guy at the front desk didn't even look up from the desk, let alone go outside to look at my car, to sign the fix it ticket.

I had bought a tow hook mounted front plate holder, from then on I just kept it in my trunk and planned to say it had gotten loose and I was worried it would fall off if I got stopped again. I've been pulled over since then, but no officer has ever even asked about the front plate.

I haven't run the front plate on my M2, and I don't plan to.

In 20 years of driving w/o front plates, I've gotten 3 fix-it tickets in San Francisco, all while I was on a doctor's appt. I don't live in SF and I always take care of the ticket near my neighborhood police station and they always sign the ticket without ever checking if I install the front plate.

If you visit SF, make sure to feed that meter. SF has the the most expensive parking tickets in the entire United States. At $74 a pop, the city's standard parking tickets are the most expensive in the country. In addition to the standard parking meter ticket, there are 111 different parking citations doled out in the city, ranging from $46 for "blocking a residential door" to $880 for "blocking access to a blue zone." The City's meters maids are very vigilant in writing citations that the SF parking meters and violations have become a $130m industry - it's a cash cow for the City.

Trust me, plenty of us that live here despise the politics and mismanaged government as well, it's the canyons and PCH we like.

Yeah, instead when asked by someone where something is simply reply...I don't know I used to live here but I've only been back 6 months.

Can't tell you how many times that was said to me verbatim when visiting LA.

I was ticketed for no front plate on my S2000. I had an unresonated Supersprint exhaust at the time and I was enjoying a hard VTEC pull as I launched onto the freeway. The cop did not catch me speeding but was going to give me a ticket for something at that point. The exhaust was not loud compared to many but there was enough low frequency that it set off sensitive car alarms in parking garages. Juvenile but fun.

I ended up getting a tow hook plate mount and a more mature exhaust for the S2000 and I have a Carbonio for the M2C that I will put on after I get my first ticket.

I was stopped on 237 + Great America Parkway, on the weekend if I recall.

I'm now running Tanabe Medallion Touring exhaust which is significantly quieter.

I got pulled over a few years ago in Glendale just for the front plate. Right on Brand, cruising at speed limit. Cop on motorcycle literally did a U-turn just to give me that ticket.

get Big Mike's Sto N Sho so you can just slide a centerd plate on and off as needed whenever you want. Bay area here and no ticket yet, but I avoid city parking as much as possible.
