M2 Competition vs M240i xDrive plus Z4 M Coupe

So I recently test drove an E86 Z4 M Coupe and it reminded me how much I love those cars and how much I miss a manual transmission. I am thinking about getting an E86 M Coupe (or a E86 Z4 3.0si). I wouldn't use the car as a regular use car; it would be a special event driver. This would require me to get an extra parking spot at the cost of $200 a month and insurance would go up about $100 a month so I am looking at about an extra $300 a month if I go this route. I would then have my existing M240i xDrive Coupe and E86 in the stable. All told I would have about $80k cdn in the cars.

On the other hand, I could pick up a 2019 or 2020 M2 Competition manual for about 80k and have that as my only car.

Financially it's pretty much a wash as the M2 Competition will depreciate at a faster rate than the M240i and the E86 M Coupe (I've already eaten a good part of the depreciation on the M240i and the E86 won't depreciate and might even appreciate). So it's really about which will bring more smiles per mile.

What do you think?

I'd go the two car route and mod them both. Throw a Big Boost turbo and XDI-60 on the M240i and go M2 Competition hunting.

If you go to the track, get the M2 competition. Else the two car option. On the street, the M240i is about the same as an M2.

Came from an m235i and can wholeheartedly recommend the M2C. Opinion, obviously is biased. But I feel it’s a huge upgrade in terms of sportiness.

I have both M2C and m235ix. Don't plan to sell either. I now daily drive the M2C and like it but, honestly, m235ix is a better daily. For long trips, especially if with passengers, I'd take the m235ix. Same in winter. Also, it may be more competent in the slow & crowded city traffic, not more fun, not really, but easier and more suited for the task.

So, I personally would go the two cars route, one being your m240ix and the other one either M2 or Z4M. Your situation and considerations may differ, of course.

It's hard for me not to recommend a Z4M coupe to anyone. It's rare and visceral. It's the last of the old school Ms - MT only, NA inline 6 that revs to 8000K, no iDrive or other crap that you don't need. It's also starting to appreciate in value. I'm not planning on ever selling mine.

That said, if you go the Z4M/240 route, you might not want to test drive the M2C, which, for my needs and tastes, is the best car BMW currently makes at any price-point.

GL with a hard decision; I'm sure you will be happy either way.
