Just an update guys. They moved up the #2 guy which I think is fair. I'm also kind of glad that I had to give up my spot. BMW has not handled selling this car appropriately and for that, I'm taking my business to a different manufacturer. Good luck with the wait.

If they moved #2 to #1, I'm now #2!

For what it's worth, it seems no one handles these things well all the time. The S3 was much more mass market and a mess at launch.

Back at launch? Wow. I know now they are easy to get for a very good deal. That car they just kept pushing launch it seemed like forever.

Real-world pricing the RS3 is going to cost a lot more than the S3 north of 30% if those pricing trends hold. That's a lot.

I had a deposit on an S3 back in January. I was getting about 14-15% off with some corporate incentives.

Yeah that's what's making my choice complicated at the moment. Need AWD would prefer 4 doors but not a deal breaker. Thinking RS3, 440GC or maybe another 235 but xDrive this time around. BMWs can get around $50-$52.5 with h discount, RS3 is going to be $57.5 based on my sources. Just considering the Audis for a moment, is the RS3 really worth what a 40+% premium to the S3 based on real world pricing? I'd have a very tough time talking myself into it.

I need awd as well but at the end of the day, I was like f this and got what I wanted. I didn't want a big car or a sedan. I'm alone in the car 90% of the time. At the time I was torn between the S3 and m sport 335. The S3 was the best value by far but i decided to stay in the BMW family. Ended up hating the 335. Transferred the lease two months later and put the deposit on the M2. In retrospect, should've just bought a Porsche or settled for the S3. It was fully loaded at $43k. I'm sure it would've grown on me. My M2 is getting serviced as we speak so I hope the drive home will change my mind. Otherwise I may consider selling it while demand is high. At this point I think nothing is going to make me happy. Lol.

Really want to stay BMW as well but we will see. I'm never really happy and am always on the lookout for the next car. Assuming I want to lease again the 440GC with a Dinan Stage 1 will probably win out. Just got my dad a pretty loaded sport wagon. The residuals in the 60s are tough to beat.

How was it after 1200 mile service? I'm curious to see how others feel about the car after living with it as a daily for a few months. Sounds like it's falling a bit short of your expectations at this point?

My expectations aren't realistic at this price point. Lol. There are just a handful of things that I really prefer in a car and the M2 has most but not all.

I haven't been able to really push it anywhere since I can't get away from traffic, it seems but I have been pushing it more and it's definitely quick! Throttle response is amazing once you really get into it (DCT). I'm planning on taking up to the windy roads this weekend if the weather holds up.

Updating here to answer the most popular msgs I've been getting:

#1 slot must have bowed out or they held onto notifying me, because I just got production order for August! Actual production week still TBD.

Ultimately I've gone from being #4 on their list to #1 (*one order ahead of me specifically asked for delivery in calendar year 2017) The rest of the movement simply due to list attrition. No price gouging (MSRP).

Are you their first actual order then? I can't believe I would've been waiting until then had I kept the number 1 spot. They said April build at the time.

Don't really know the details other then the HEA car went. Keep in mind, they are a smaller dealership. Either way, I put my deposit in at the end of May, and now I have one coming.

That's encouraging to hear as I am the person who is looking to do ED in late spring next year, should be in good shape to get an allocation in line with my target timeframe.

Are they allowing you to do ED?

So far as I have been told by my SA there are no issues with doing an ED.
