Anyone reconsidering ED?

I am #1 at my dealer for ED but with all the issues in Europe & with air travel my wife doesn't think us making the trip is a good idea. I'm always looking on the good side so not very concerned...plus it's several months away...but "happy wife...happy life" has worked well for 40 years...looks like Performance Delivery only for my M2

I will almost certainly do ED.

There's a minor chance of inconvenience. An infitesimal chance of being the victim of an attack.

And I'm not giving in to fear.

I totally get the happy wife thing tho.

I agree with Jackie. My wife and I will differently do an ED.

I was in EU for both the Paris bombings and a recent week long Lufthansa strike. The chances of something actually happening to you are slim to none, that said if you're on a tight timeline and there's a travel lockdown getting back to the US on schedule may be problematic. If you're flexible though don't see any reason not to go. If it makes the wife feel any better I noticed a definite increase in security both while traveling around and definitely at airports, so from every indication I saw you're safer going now than you would have been a month ago.

I am in EU now. Just spent a week in Italy and I am currently in Amsterdam. While I have seen a big step up in police presence, I have not seen anything that could be a cause for concern. This is exactly the fear they want to instill in people. If you're afraid to leave the house, they have accomplished their mission.

I'd still do ED if it was tomorrow. Even with the travel alert. Flying into/out of the US/Western Europe is probably the most secure its ever been right now with everything going on.

No doubt.

You guys that want to kowtow to irrational spousal fears from the television are idiots too ... What does your wife think, she's gonna get TAKEN? LOL. Man up for chrissakes.

Avoid France, I wouldn't even take a new BMW there anyway , but to avoid an entire contingent because of unrest in one country is almost absurd.

said differently, how many of you would tell people not to come to the US because of unrest in ferguson, fires in California , Sharks off the coasts of the US and the threat of a super harsh winter in the NE?? :

Not at all. We are thinking of heading to Hungary and Turkey after a few days around Munich actually.

Turkey might get you an invasive pat down from the TSA. Considering they just shot down a Russian jet, I'd probably not go THERE right now.

But in general, I wouldn't avoid the EU... I don't think that level of caution is warranted, imo.

I got a TON of emails from my travel attorneys about avoiding Turkey if possible. Safety aspects aside, it just seems to be a huge pain in the ass at the moment.

Tentative dates are late May/early June '16. This will be a dream vacation and wanted to make it count. I've literally been saving my pennies and may not get this chance again.

Still up in the air at this point, but will weigh travels warnings in a few months. Pricing may be a factor too. Tentative itinerary was:
ED for 2-3days
Hungary for 3 days
Turkey for 4-6
Fly home from Turkey.

All this could change with the climate in Europe or Eurasia.

Was reconsidering the Nurburgring in the plans. Should I head south to the mountain passes or north to the 'Ring?

ED 100%
Planning on the Ring
Amsterdam
Prague
Some autobahn
(Still planning logistics...)
Driving through France to England to finish up strong at Emirates Stadium . If its summer and we won the league and FA cup (hehe) then just a drive to the stadium will be enough for me!

All other countries are restricted because of the temporary tourist plates that are not recognized in non-EU countries. Also consider when planning your travels that you may not drive through any country that is not listed above.
You can't drive your BMW into Turkey while on European Delivery.

I think he's aware of this.

If you're going to drive the car gingerly on the Ring, or you don't care about break-in procedures, I think the Ring is a huge draw for me. Kind of like going to Magic Mountain just to ride a rollercoaster you love.

If I get to do ED again, I will do the mountain passes, but this is coincidental since I'll probably head south into Italy and so it makes sense. I live in SoCal and we have some great driving roads here. For me, Europe's autobahns and the Ring are huge.

It's very naive to think that any country is safer or less safe than another at this point.

Now is the best time to go to visit anywhere in Western Europe including France. Because the security is so heightened that chances are if any group of people are planning attacks they will put it off for later.

Just my 2 cents.
