An established and litigious company as BMW will not ship a vehicle to the US without a roof attached. It goes the safety regulations a car must adhere to before the DOT approves it for public street usage. Best case scenario is BMW built the original roof in a way were it's reasonable swappable - far fetched..

It goes without saying, we would have a lot of cool cars and features of it wasn't for all the US stringent and archaic regulations in place.. But I understand why some are there; to protect people that are stupid and can't reason for themselves..

Weight of M2

I'm a little confused by the M2 weight.
On bmwusa.com,
M2 LCI 6MT curb weight: 3505 lbs/ 1590 kg. DCT curb weight: 3450 lbs/ 1565 kg.
M4 F82 6MT curb weight: 3565 lbs/ 1617 kg. DCT curb weight: 3620 lbs/ 1642 kg.

If M2C is 55 kg heavier than M2 LCI,
M2C 6MT curb weight: 3627 lbs/ 1645 kg. DCT curb weight: 3571 lbs/ 1620 kg.

So according to bmwusa website information, M2C 6mt is gonna be 28 kg heavier than M4 6mt.
If we spend maybe $20k+ on m performance parts, we'll lose around 30 kgs, which bring it identical to M4 6mt. (also at the same price haha)

And why is M2 6mt heavier than dct? manual transmission should be lighter right?... typo?

They mixed up the weight figures of DCT and 6MT. Obviously 6MT is the lighter one and weighs 3450lbs while DCT weighs 3505lbs.

Yes, the manual is lighter, this mixup happen when the 235i manual/automatic figures was announced also, there are a lot of discussion on the subject.. Obviously, just by the fact the DCT requires extra cooling hardware adds weight in Itself without factoring the dual clutch transmission unit.

Early US buyers could possibly lose out on port install, if that is even possible with all the parts. Still not confirmed.

A guy goes to sleep after a very tiresome boring day at work.
Out of the blue a weird voice echoes in his mind: "Quit your job, sell your house, sell your car, sell everything you got, empty your accounts and leave straightaway for Monaco to play #9".
The guy thinks he must be hallucinating and ignores the voice.
The next evening, once in bed, the same voice returns: "Quit your job, sell your house, sell your car, sell everything you got, empty your accounts and leave straightaway for Monaco to play #9".
It puzzles the guy, but again he ignores the voice.
However, this goes on and on for days, till the guy finally cracks. After all, this can be no coincidence. This must be a sign.
And so the guy quits his job, sells his house, sells his car, sells everything he got, empties his accounts and leaves for Monaco.
Upon arrival in Monaco the guy goes straightaway to the Monte-Carlo casino.
Once he takes a seat at the roulette, the illustrious voice echoes again: "Put all your money on #9 !"
The guy, sweating like hell, nervously puts all his chips on #9.
The croupier spins the roulette wheel and launches the ball.
The ball keeps spinning and bouncing and finally falls into pocket #13.
Out of the blue, the voice returns: "Shiiiit..."

I would typically not care, but the idea that the weight might be reduced has me thinking about waiting?

November really. That is quick!! Will this car be 6MT?

Should people wait ???

it's how I got a 1M...

BMW said for years.. no M car... No M car..., no M car.. and then....

BMW says no M2 CS(L)... or.. at least.. no comment...

Personally.. " I'll be gone til November.. " and will see what vehicles and transmissions options show up in BMW VIN databases by then.
If nothing comes out.. I will keep my 1M and probably build a full track car (Spec E46 or something) over the winter to run next year.
If an M2 further progress with a 6MT comes out... then I will be interested.
If an M2 further progress with a DCT only comes out.... I will be looking for an X3M to use as a tow vehicle/daily driver.

Nobody said November is when it becomes official. I am thinking November or so is when we'll see proper signs and proper evidence that there is something else coming if it's coming.

We'll see if it's a CS or CSL/GTS type.

Or maybe, it'll be nothing and everyone would think why BMW left all that money on the table.
