Exactly - if you're filthy rich and love the M2 then u don't care the cost.

Plus isn't this M enthusiast just spending his money to confirm that SMB is the best BMW color?

How many billionaires actually care about a BMW, let alone an entry-level M car?

I bet you not even one..

This vehicle has a target demographic, which is young consumers with a median income of under 100k, not the Rockefellers or Bloomberg..

https://www.bmwblog.com/2015/11/02/b...ith-m2-and-x1/

This option makes very little sense and I'm starting to believe BMW is offering it for the publicity and apparently it's working..

Who say he's a billionaire... He probably got paper to buy a soup-up M2 but a billion dollars is a lot of money.

With a billion dollars you can afford to have 5 ex-wives all driving X5s and a personal butler; why would you want to purchase an M2 when you can get Lambos and Ferraris or even some high-end Mercedes.

Not even try to sound arrogant, just saying.

Say you do spring for an M2, I assume a wealthy business savvy person would not spend 24k on paint, on principle..

I could be wrong..

I don't know if he is a billionaire or not, but his car collection sure looks like of a billionaire.

What the hell are you talking about?

It's a $25,000 paint job and I live in a congested city, excuse me for having some common sense..

I am aware they're using just paint and not the blood of the Virgin Mary, doesn't mean a shop with $100 spray gun and bake booth can exactly duplicate the quality of a half-million robotic painter.

I'm sure it will look "good enough" but 25k great? I wouldn't exactly been overconfident.
If you really wanted the car (I'm not saying you do), then not buying it in the color you want based on something that might happen is silly.

I stand by the body shop comment. Not all are great but you just need to find the right one.
I was speaking hypothetically, of course; my hard-working grandmother would spin over in her grave if she heard I spend 25k on paint, on sheer principle.

And beside, this is a 60k car; who in their right mind would spend more than 1/3 it's value on the paint.

It's a silly option but interesting nonetheless.
I don't know why this is confusing to people. The buyer wanted SMB paint. It cost 25k because they don't do individual on 2 series and BMW has to pull the car or parts from one factory to another and back again disrupting the line. The buyer obviously feels it's worth it to get what they want. I don't think they care if the paint was over a third of the price of the car, they want what they want, and they can afford to pay.

I think you're really splitting hairs at this point. Michael fux is wealthy enough to not give a fuck. Have you seen the amount of custom rolls Royce he has? He has custom paint that he named!

Of course a I've seen custom Rolls Royce; I go online and build one every time I play the lotto.

My Rolls comes up to $525,000, a slightly little more expensive than an M2, so if the paint option cost me 25k, it's still within the realm of being reasonable.

Just because we found the one eccentric rich person with a few bucks to burn on a M2, doesn't mean reasonable rich people would follow suit and make such a poor financial move on a vehicle that has very little pizzazz to their caliber of vehicles.

I'll tell you what, you find me one other human on this planet that spent 25 to 50k as Mr. Fux did on an M2's paint option and I'll change my tune.

BMW is simply offering this option to create buzz and I commend them because it's working so far. They really don't expect anyone to bite.

Watch this story pick up more traction with auto journalists within the next few months and in turn free advertisement for the M2.

After this price for the paint, it should be completely wrapped with PPF

Color match

It will be the same as with all repainting jobs, there is a production color with color code from BMW and a repaint/repair color with a color code for each color of BMW. Production color and repair/repaint color (with BMW) is not 100% the same cause of different technologies of applying.

Yea, well to anyone that makes that investment , rest easy a night! ...heck, I guess if you can afford $24k paint haggling with insurance is the least of your worries. There's a niche out there somewhere.. and I'm definitely not in it!

It canīt. The only more affordable way is post-production at a local paint shop done in repair/repaint color code from BMW but not in BMW production line in Leipzig.

As others say this is just the effort of having the car transported to the other plant, so the 24k are paying mostly the factory stops to have the car removed from one line to the other and returning it...and probably also some „scare-off" margin, so that not everyone opts in for that, what would cause BMW a huge logistics effort, if every 3rd order wants custom paint...

If it would be a easy thing for BMW, they would be happy to take your money and offer you individual color as they do for other models. But the circumstance simply do not allow them to do this.

So this case here was probably to maintain a good relationship for a very good and special customer, as the austin yellow one has been.

If you really want some custom paint (not wrap), find a very good paintjob company, pay them 8-10k and you have every color you can dream off, and also done almost the same way (everything removed incl. engine), so nobody would notice it at all, even with very detailed inspections...
Good man-paintwork is always better than any robot, there are reasons why special luxury-car paintjobs are still done this way ;-)

Fake news, this is just a photoshop. 4480 makes more sense. If not and you want any individual color... spray it over after your purchase.
