It's a keeper!!!...with a Fabspeed sport cat and Dinatronics tune there is plenty of power...So while there will always be a better mousetrap...sometimes it is wise to enjoy fully what you have.

Ask me again in ten years!!!!

why is this even being asked?

these are not $800 phones that you flip after 1 year.

these are $60k cars that are already a bargain.
They have been called the best M car in the last 10 years.
Most journalists praised this car as being a Real M car.
This car still beats out the Audi RS3. Audi will have to come up with RRS3 to compete with S55 M2.
This car still is rare. I see one M2 once a month while I see 5 M3/4s per day in Metro NJ/NY area.

I bought this car knowing there is S55 coming out.
I considered there will be delay (there has already been delay with N55, imagine the S55 delay/wait..). these people will probably get their hands on one in 2019. I got mine in 2017. that's already 2 years of fun with my rare M2.
I considered potential limited availability (N55 have been having availability issues for past 2-3 years, now supply is finally catching up slowly).
I considered the higher MSRP.. for a small sports car if it's any higher than what I paid, might as well spend a bit more and look at more premium cars like Cayman or M4 ZCP, or C63 that has better overall quality.
I considered dealer mark-ups (it was already crazy with N55) on top of the higher MSRP.

The current 2 series are going out of production within a few years. There will be a whole new 2 series with better performance M2 very soon after S55 M2 is released and around the time you get your hands on S55. So those who are ditching N55 M2 for a S55 M2, are you selling the S55 M2 in a year or so to jump into the new and better because your S55 M2 is .2 seconds slower than the new one? while eating up depreciation + paying higher price for the future car?

No I have my back problem (I had injured my back 2 times once in rock climb fall and weight-lifting second. And getting into the back seat with folding the front seat to the front gives me limited access since I have to bend my back with kids weight in my arm. 4drs will allow me easier access directly to the car seat.

If you find it easier than 4dr haha I guess it is my problem but still find it harder doing it in 2dr coupe.

Ah sorry to hear. Well with the coupe I'm positioned directly in front of my kid while doing up his harness. I tilt the seat and step in with him close. Pretty straight forward. With the X1 I have to sort of flop him over the car seat armrest and then awkwardly reach over for the belt.

My dream car was the e46 M3. This was the closest to compare. I don't care if a 750hp version appears, this car is all I ever wanted and its capabilities will always exceed my skill set. It's a sunny weekend car that shares those days w/ my e30 convertible. I absolutely love the car and for those who are willing to chase the elusive "latest and greatest", I wish them luck.

Yeah I get the point. Problem with me is that I have to bend down with weight at the front while my support from my sits behind the weight. I can put my leg in first and bend with the weight when entering but still gives me stress on my back. Hopefully my back will be better

My car, for my needs, does not have any issues with power. I dare say it is perfectly powered today. How much more of a car does one need unless tracking it.

What's the time gap going to be between the the 2020 end of production M2 and the next one based on the new 2 series? I guess we need to see G series M3 and M4 come out before BMW would do the next gen M2 I would think? And then they need to shoehorn RWD (or AWD?) onto the new 2 series for the new M2 as the next gen 2 series is FWD is it not?

4 months & 3000 miles on my '18 LCI. It's a keeper for now. Depending on the price increase, I'd most likely jump ship from BMW before I get the S55 M2.

even WHEN tracking it.. more power isn't needed.. there will be always be those that want MORE... but even using all of the stock power exceeds most driver's capabilities.

I doubt I will sell mine for the S55 M2. I would rather get a CPO Porsche or F80 if I were to spend more money. Price was a major charm of the M2 for me. Brand new for ~55k is a deal compared to the majority of what is out there.

That said - if the options include all the things I dislike about my current M2 I might be tempted

This!
It's mostly the drag racers on this forum doing illegal stuff on public roads who need more power. Driving in a straight line doesn't need any skill; I can guarantee you there is going to be a club Miata who is going to embarrass you on the track, and there is no s55/s65/s85 engine in this world that can save you from the embarrassment.
Spend $$$ on improving the driving skills than worry about engine codes. The car is way more capable that anyone in this forum, unless you're a pro racing driver lurking here

And to folks who have M cars and use them for putting around in public roads - big mistake! Take this car to your local track and see what it's capable of - it's just unreal.

I shall keep my deposit, just in case it turns out to be a home run. And really the only thing that could sway me enough is game changing steering feel improvement, and a GT3esque NA 'race' motor

I've done my fair share of looking around and if I want more power I'm going American. And if I'm dead set on more feel, well old M or a 2002 project would be what I would be after. But that's not the case. The M2 to me with everything turned off is one of the best cars I've had to drive, which quite contrasts the feel of it all on.

Looking at the F-Type and how many of the reviews praised the V6 pair, really opened my eyes past the more power = better experience.

I have many gripes with the M2, but my biggest is i'm too scared about it all. I'm frightened to screw up (less driving hard and no track time so far), and I don't want to bugger it up with mods. SSK and UCP are something I plan on doing, however the DP and tune is a bit worrisome. All of these might just solve what I feel its lacking; firmer feel inputs, and a bit better sound.

BUT, despite my promiscuous car interests and points of contention, my heart is set on keeping my 16 model, and something is telling me to keep it till the day she dies.

It still feels good beating a DCT using launch control at the 'strip' with my old school 6 speed (to a 100 at least then I was left behind of course).

I hope the price on the 2019 increases by at-least 10k, that way the current M2's value will >>>>>>

I did NOT hurt my back* and could NEVER see putting kids into car seat in the back of a two door car. That would wear on me fast. So I agree - wrong car with kids. Heck, PITA with my 14 year old's friends getting in the back seats!

I think there’s a bit of homerism happening here. I like both cars but I’m not exactly sure where the M2 beats out the RS3, unless you’re only talking about a weekend only thing, or a track toy. The Audi does virtually everything else better. It’s (much) faster, is crazy with a tune, laughs at bad weather, hauls people better, comes better equipped, I could go on. The M2 does look more aggressive but that’s good and bad I suppose.
