I really wanted a convertible until I realized the 200 kg. weight penalty was equivalent to driving around with 3 passengers. Then I changed my mind.

61 here, but I was only 59-1/2 when I picked up the M2. I drive pretty sanely on the road, except for that whole "not slowing down for corners" thing.

It's still not my favorite car of all time - that'd be my former '95 M3 with the turbo and Koni coil-overs installed by yours truly, but it's very close.

The M2 is my daily and auto-X car. I track it once a while, but usually, if I'm gonna risk rolling a vehicle up in a ball, I'll go with my current track rat, yet another E36 M3.

Driving this M2 makes me feel young again. It has been over 30 years since I drove a manual transmission and I missed it, so I bought the M2 with 6MT. It is a blast to drive but with consequences....

I haven't received a speeding ticket in 20 years but got 1 on the first day with the M2. It is extremely challenging to stay under the speed limit. Most of the speed limits around Chicago Suburbs are between 25mph to 45mph. So by the time I was in the 3rd gear I had already reached the speeding limit.

I don't want to bore you with this post so I will stop here. But if you see an old man driving a blue M2, please move out of his way. He drives like a 25 years young man.
Listen whippersnapper. I have ties older than you. If you see a blur in the rear view, it's me and get the hell out of the way.

And while you're at it, get off my damn lawn.

Great post.

I'm 60 and I was thinking that my M2 might be the last hurrah, but maybe not!

I like the fact that the car can be driven very gently even when winding up the tach, just don't punch it unless you are ready for a rush of power. And yes it handles really well. Like Corinne, I like the Tunes, heated seats and other comfort features of the car as well.

I too went with the 6 spd manual. I have been driving manual trannys since 1976 - exclusively. To me it only feels rubbery in 1st going to 2nd. Other than that I got used to it. Actually, I wish it had a 7th gear, seems to be odd to shift into 6 gear at 50 MPH, as I understand it, the dual clutch is a manual transmission shifted by a computer essentially.

I saw my first m2 besides mine in the wild today, an LBB 2018 lci... and the owner had to be over 75 years old. I'm only 24 but I couldn't help but think to myself, helllllll yeah for that guy!! it was a 6mt too

I thought at 65 and still being able to get in and out of this M2 coupe, and the muscle strength to clutch in and out with the 6MT, would give me the bragging rights. Can't believe I still have to get out of the way for other older M2 drivers

Better yet.... The M2 is my wife's. She is 66 and insisted on a stick! There is a reason we've been married over 40 years!

Have you oldies got the version with the digital radio/cd delete, but with the 45 rpm gramophone ? Then there's the nav screen delete in favour of a map rack. And who needs lane-departure steering wheel vibration when you've got Parkinsons ?

This post really caught my eye. I'm pushing 60 and this is my 2nd M2. First one was MY16, now MY17. My first drive was a BMW MY74 2002, followed by 320i, then 325is. Then with kids and dog, we went through numerous minivans and Jeep GC's.
My passion for BMW's prevailed, so when the kids grew up, I went back to X3's, 435, 330Touring, all MSports pack.
The best part of all, I can now "car talk" with my younger son who's a BMW Product Genius at our local dealership. He gets to drive a new (and did I say cheap) employee lease car every year. He's now on his 2nd M240i. Essentially, he gets paid to drive and be around BMW's while I have to pay to play. How great a job is that.
BTW, although I grew up driving MT, my M2 is DCT. I love the kick in the butt and chipping of tires between shifts. The turbo and DCT are such great match.
Call me old if you want, but it still stirs my blood everytime I take my M2 out.
Darn to BMW for getting us hooked.

Why a '16 and then a 17' M2?

I'll be 66 in May and hopefully by mid April my 18' MG M2 MT MPE will arrive. Looking forward to its arrival! Between the new M2 and my 95' modded Mitsubishi GSX, I am looking forward to this summer.
