NOPE. and we REFUSE! If you haven't got a reason already..... go buy an M4.

I would suppose that they carefully trimmed the M2's motor to keep it slower than the flagship M4. Fascinating that the 333 hp M46 M3 is still fastest in the venue that is, for me, the true test of a car.

no it's not.
IIRC the time for the E46 M3 CSL is on Micheliin Sport Cup tires. the full on R tire.. not Michelin supersports which are a street tire.

I still think it's ridiculous that a car this much smaller than the M4 comes in at a curb weight that is only 25-30 lbs less. I don't like large cars either, but it's not simply an aesthetic concern for me. I don't like large cars because large cars also tend to be heavy.
Finally, the M3 CSL rides on lightweight cross-spoke alloy wheels measuring 8.5×19-inches in front (0.5 inches wider than the normal M3) and 9.5×19-inches in the rear. These are shod with special Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires sized 235/35ZR19 (front) and 265/30ZR19 (rear).

Agree with you @bradleyland about the fact that weight has not been a major concern at BMW M - interesting to see Chevy get in the game more.

For starters, Chevy trimmed a lot of fat. In fact, the V6 model is 294 pounds lighter than last year’s car, the V8 223 pounds less and the new turbo four 390 pounds lighter than the last V6. General Motors did this using aluminum where possible, and the car sits on the Cadillac ATS’ rear-drive chassis, making the Chevy’s body-in-white 20 percent lighter than when it sat on the old Zeta platform. No part was left unchecked: The wheels are a half-inch wider but 6 ounces lighter, and extra threads were trimmed off long bolts.

I've come to the conclusion that Long Beach Blue > Yas Marina Blue ....it's more closer to my all time favorite Laguna Seca Blue

Everyone keeps talking about the civic type r ring time at 7:50, shaming the M2, but it was on a pre-production car without a passenger seat, a/c and radio, and a full cage "for safety only" on I would bet a special Michelin sport cup 2

Well, it will drive differently due to the short wheelbase. It does have an effect on the polar moment of inertia. Better autocross car than the F8x.

But it will not be faster, that's for sure. Worse track car than the F8x. Much worse than the Mustang 350.

The main reason for its existence is to provide an entry into the M world at a lower price point. It will provide the full on M experience, of that I have no doubt. And I do hope it will bring more of the younger generations into our world.

I hope many of you guys will take delivery in Munich, because this will be a blast to drive around in the mountains in Europe.

Ah, I was not aware that the CSL wears PS Cup tires. On a 13 mile course, R compound certainly makes up a significant portion of the 32 second difference between a base M3 and the CSL. Weight definitely makes up the other portion though.

Code:
E46 M3 8:22
E46 M3 CSL 7:50
Difference 0:32

And blue stitched as well. So fancy. My gf tried one lap on the Ring with me in the 235 and was over it. No oh shit handle, it's gonna be the first thing I hear a gripe about.

I'm here to tell ya..... European plates STILL on..

I don't know if this will bring more of the younger generation. but it will get a lot of new buyers into the BMW fold and it will also allow some old time fogeys holding onto older models to re-buy in. Case in point is a guy like myself that jumped from E30 to 1M... and many people will probably jump from their 18-20 year old E36 M3s or slightly younger E46 M3s to be able to buy their firs M Car BRAND NEW.

If BMW North America REALLY wanted to throw the younger generations here a bone they would have a 1 series hatchback on the lots here to compete with cars like the Wrx, Focus, Golf R. Audi , Hyundai Veloster, etc.. The X1 and X2 aren't enough

They got the younger buyers like myself interested in the M2 or M3. But I'm not going to lose that connection to older M cars by selling my E36 unless I absolutely have to. There's something really great about all of them

Whatever, does your e36 even have an M button? If not, sell it and get a real M!

By the way, e36 M3s are going up in value. I Should have bought one a couple years ago...I would love one!

This thread is LOOOONG so.... Anyone know if the head restraints are adjustable? I don't drive a 2 series and aren't sure if these seats are the same or not, but it would be great if they were. Better for track/helmet use vs DD.

Yes it was.

Edit: actually I'm not sure. I just know I saw it already but not necessarily here.
