M2 Competition Price

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
With the base M2 at $54,500 and now M3 at $66,500 and now M4 at $68,700, there is room to increase the M2 Competition price. Now a $14K difference between M2 and M4. What do you think?

All guess work right now but in UK at least the Competition Pack M3 & M4 is around 5% price increase over the standard models so perhaps this can be a guide that can be used for the M2..

As the current N55 M2 will no longer be in production, I can only assume that the price increase won't be too much more otherwise they might lose out in this market sector and not to be too close to be taking sales away from the more expensive M3/M4 models

For example, here in Switzerland you can order a M4 CS, and there is a huge difference in the base price!

A base M4 is starting at 99k

A base M4 CS is starting at 148k, but quite packed with lot stuff

However, as you mentioned, its is not a CS and is more comparable to the competition package you order on a base one, so can't go up that much as it replaces the normal M2, so I guess the 5% are realistic...but I guess without all the options, like M seats and so on

Everyone forgets one of the most important factors in them setting a price is benchmarking the competition.

Rs3- 54,900. 400hp.
CLA AMG- 51400 375hp.

BMW almost always put a new improved motor in the Lci's and there isn't really a price bump.

Sure they added more options like the optional sport brakes and optional sport seats to add a little bit more possible profit margin to the car (also mercedes/audi offers these options) I really don't think the base price is going to change like people think it will.

BMW has sold all the M2s it could produce. There will be a significant price increase, because greed always rules.

I don't think it's comparable at all. it's replacing the old model, not a package you can order on top of the base model. it's got a new look on the front bumper. rumor is the car is now wider, maybe wider tires as well? engine getting changed. the engine is heavier, suspension will be retuned. Option for upgraded seats and brakes. M mirrors this time, why? Is it because BMW feels this is a whole new M2?

I would look at the base M3 price and the price of the competing brands similar models as a guide for where the new m2 price will fall.

Current M2 is on par with those cars you cite. Horsepower is not the entire measure of a car as you seem to imply. The M2 will be a step up and will therefore warrant a price stepped up as well. BMW is not in the charity business. They would only worry about competitive pricing if they had supply that outstripped demand... and I think we know that will not be the case.

Also, they need to put more price separation from the M240i.

Look for something halfway between the current M2 (and those cars you cite) and the base M4. I would say closer to the M4 side, as it will be close to that in many ways (and better in others).

It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Currently the M240 and M2 are way too close in price and the S55 and great sales gives them a great reason to push the prices up significantly. I would not be surprised to see a 5-7k jump in the base of the M2. The base price of the M2 was surprisingly low, don't think BMW is going to do that again.

Depends on what goods you get for the money when you go for a stripper (zero options).

The length of the M2 Competition options list is a tell-tale sign that you'll be in M3/M4 territory if you go for a full-fledged spec when ticking boxes at the dealer for an order.

I always weigh what goods I'm getting when I go for a stripper...

But I'm hoping the base price comes in closer to what it is now... big price jump imho would hurt sales by pricing out the people it initially attracted...

Quite some of "the people it initially attracted" got already an M2.

And you can be sure dealer ordered cars are going to tick a lot of boxes!

Maybe. A lot of M2 owners claim they could afford an M4 if they wanted that instead.

So likely $60-65K, with more if you add more and more options?

This is a good point...but the car is still the first one you can get into for a full-on M, and is supposed to be the new "base" M2, right?

That might prevent BMW from going too much higher...but we shall see.

If they put the carbon ceramic brakes as an option it's going to be higher than that.
