     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
M2 CS vs M2 Competition tested at Hockenheim GP-Kurs track. The test wasn't back to back.

Performance figures:

M2 CS: 1:55.8 min laptime
M2 Competition: 1:57.9 min laptime

M2 CS 0-100 km/h: 4.1s (factory quote: 4.0s)
M2 Competition 0-100 km/h: 4.5s (factory quote: 4.2s)

M2 CS slalom: 70.6 km/h
M2 Competition slalom: 71.1 km/h

M2 CS 100-0 braking distance: 32.9 meters
M2 Competition 100-0 braking distance: 34.1 meters

Also see: M2 CS Specs & Details Revealed.

EDIT: added: hot lap video
(note: 02:05 = M2 CS test car goes into 'limp mode' on its way to the finish due to low fuel)

EDIT: added: about test circumstances (based on info mentioned in the data sheet)
  • the tested M2 Competition: M-DCT, weighed 1631 kg (full tank of fuel included), apparently had no M Driver's Package (because data sheet notes V-max of 250 km/u (stock: electronically limited V-max) - Parabolika speed 232 km/h), featured steel brakes (2NH M Sport Brakes), was sitting on Pilot Super Sport tires, likely on 19" 788M wheels (no info specified), and was driving in 1°C/34°F air temp + 1°C/34°F track temp and 1020 mbar air pressure;
  • the tested M2 CS: M-DCT, weighed 1588 kg (full tank of fuel included), went into 'limp mode' on its way to the finish due to low fuel (running on empty = minimum fuel weight), apparently had M Driver's Package (because data sheet notes V-max of 280 km/h (delimited V-max) - Parabolika speed 248 km/h), featured M-CCB (carbon ceramic brakes), was sitting on Cup 2 tires fitted on lightweight 19" 763M wheels, and was driving in 32°C/90°F air temp + 53°C/127°F track temp and 1015 mbar air pressure.
  • track temperature difference: 52°C/93°F (1°C/34°F vs. 53°C/127°F);
  • air temperature difference: 31°C/56°F (1°C/34°F vs. 32°C/90°F);
  • air pressure difference: 5 mbar (1020 mbar vs. 1015 mbar).

M2cs is 43kgs or 94.7lbs lighter than M2competition.
Assuming the transmission and fuel levels were the same.

The temps on those runs were drastically different. That seems odd.

It looks via the spec sheet, that the CS also had the 6/4 pot brakes setup with Carbon rotors, vs. the Competition being fitted with the 4/2 pot standard brake setup (non 2NH - grey M-Performance).

There's huge variance in ambient and track temps. But surely all things being equal i.e. same day/track conditions, you'd expect better than a 1.7% performance increase (116 seconds - CS vs. 118 seconds - Competition) in lap time, once you factor in the CS' greater power, better track suited tyres (tires for US folk) and more fade resistant brake setup?

The CS gets the 6-4 MP steel brake standard. Not necessarily the CCB fitted with the car tested.

Yes.
However, M2cs added adaptive suspension.
IIRC, that adds ~ 45lbs ??

In the M3/4 that was already standard when the CS came out.

The data sheet you posted says that the M2 CS test car featured optional M-CCB: "Keramik (optional)". Look also at the indicated 15K price delta (base price versus test car price) which could be explained by M-CCB for a significant part.

According to the same data sheet:
  • the tested M2 Competition: M-DCT, weighed 1631 kg (full tank of fuel included), apparently had no M Driver's Package (because data sheet notes V-max of 250 km/u (stock: electronically limited V-max) - Parabolika speed 232 km/h), featured steel brakes (2NH M Sport Brakes), was sitting on Pilot Super Sport tires, likely on 19" 788M wheels (no info specified), and was driving in 1°C/34°F air temp + 1°C/34°F track temp and 1020 mbar air pressure;
  • the tested M2 CS: M-DCT, weighed 1588 kg (full tank of fuel included), went into 'limp mode' on its way to the finish due to low fuel (running on empty = minimum fuel weight), apparently had M Driver's Package (because data sheet notes V-max of 280 km/h (delimited V-max) - Parabolika speed 248 km/h), featured M-CCB (carbon ceramic brakes), was sitting on Cup 2 tires fitted on lightweight 19" 763M wheels, and was driving in 32°C/90°F air temp + 53°C/127°F track temp and 1015 mbar air pressure.
  • track temperature difference: 52°C/93°F (1°C/34°F vs. 53°C/127°F);
  • air temperature difference: 31°C/56°F (1°C/34°F vs. 32°C/90°F);
  • air pressure difference: 5 mbar (1020 mbar vs. 1015 mbar).
Hm, judging merely by those figures, it looks like the M2 Competition - considering its setup and near freezing point test circumstances - wasn't particularly blown out of the water/ice by the better equipped and more powerful M2 CS pushed around the track in warm weather on hot asphalt.

43 kg is a nice number, but we have to be aware that 16 kgs is the wheels... Let's guess where the other kilos come from.

- 9 kg from the front carbon bonnet
- 6 kg from the carbon roof panel
+ ?? kg for the CCB kit
+ ?? kg for the extra parts
- ?? normal airco

You still want it at 120-150k$? Man that's a lot for factory warranty parts and a lackluster tune. Exclusivity won't matter. Just ask M4 gts owners.

This car is really aimed at ppl who want a more special or modded M2 but don't want to touch the aftermarket or risk voiding there warranty..

Nothing so unique about it. Looks like BMW marketing team discovered that they can make even more $$ by splitting models in more sub-models because today most people just want to impress others and can't appreciate what they have. This phenomenon can be observed in every other consumption markets and is fueled by social media behaviours.

I don’t get it. You can recreate this car safely and reliably for 20k less 🙄

More than 20k less. But finally, rational thinking is being posted.

Karmic Man, you can get the hood now and you'll be set at a great discount too. As for performance numbers, cmon this isnt worth 20k over current M2 comp pricing. This is BMW marketing at its finest and props to them for cashing in. At this price you are in Porsche territory and the Cayman GT4 is a killer compared to this car IMHO opinion. I hate saying that as Im a loyalist. Ive owned an M car since the e46, e90, m2, and current m2 comp but cmon this is just getting absurd.

This is a waste of time if they couldn't find two cars with matching brakes and wheel/tire combinations.

I agree. I want the CS to be amazing, but I am left wondering how much of this is brakes and, specifically, tires. 2 seconds on a small track is usually much more on a large track, but without the same tires it's not really fair.
