I have a real problem letting go of cars I own and love. So I'm keeping the M2C but I'm adding an RS6 Avant as soon as the ordering guide is available. Why? Ever since the RS2 came out and we couldn't have it here in the U.S., I've been waiting to buy a fast wagon. Nearly bought an E63 Estate a few years back. I think the RS6 Avant will be a perfect daily driver and family hauler.

The RS2 really was something special at the time. I think with the 25 year import rule you can actually bring one to the States now.

This question came very close to being relevant on Thursday morning. Twice. It's been raining like mad for quite a while here, and the world tried to kill my car on the way to work.

First, I ended up being, basically, force to go over a slightly flooded spot of road. I had cars behind me that had no desire to back off so I could turn around, police cars and emergency vehicles were blocking the space that would be needed to turn around (thanks to the first person who hit the unexpected water and ended up destroying their car on a tree...I hope they are OK, 'cause their late '90's Maxima isn't). The water didn't turn out to be dangerously high, so that was fine once I was through it.

4 or so miles later, right on the edge of civilization, a young deer ran right out in front of me. I stopped about 18" from the poor thing and then it ran off. If my brakes were still wet from the flood, I would have hit it (there are lots of curves that I have to brake for between the two incidents, so they were likely mostly dried out). If the stupid 2NH brakes weren't as good as they are (when they haven't been destroyed by too many track tests or whatever...call this one "if I my car had the braking distance of a 2019 Accord or Camry"), I would have hit it. If I had been running my summer wheels all this time, I would have hit it.

Best part of the whole trip was that I actually didn't have any emotional response to the craziness of the drive in to work until I got to work, and then the "eeeek!" set in. Fun bit of delayed panic response. :-) I had worked about 13 hours the day before, an absolute horror show of a day, and had only had about 4 hours of sleep. Wrecking the car in a flood or on a deer would have made total sense with how the rest of last week went.

A GT350, the first Mustang I've ever really considered an option, for the NA V8 with a manual. I'm deeply intrigued by how well it's been reviewed. I got to take one on a short test drive and the thing is impressive (but large and I really hated the interior). Going the other direction and going for a Model 3 Performance could be an option, too. Also a very good chance I'd just grab another M2C with a manual instead of my current DCT.

There's a small chance that I'd give up and go for an X3M Competition...but I still just can't bring myself to go SUV.

I deeply want to own a Porsche 911 or Cayman at least once, but it's a tricky proposition due to price, how steep my driveway is, and the fact that I don't have room in the garage or my life for more than one car at a time.

If the elephant waits a while, the G87 could still be on the list if the styling isn't too bad and it turns out to be a good car.
Oh dang, I had missed this when I looked before making my snide comment. Curses!!

The cool thing about this little F87 is I don't really think about wanting something else. It's damn near the perfect car. It's sporty, has a little bit of storage, gets decent mileage, has the ///M pedigree, not too ostentatious but grabs a good amount of positive attention and it's a blast to drive. Plus it has great options like Apple CarPlay, dual zone AC and nav. It would be absolutely perfect if it came with a HUD and ventilated seats. I think the M2C will attain the same modern classic status as the E46 M3.

So, since I made Brandt51 go look at older posts, here's what would have happened if I had lost the car last week: I would not have been willing to rent a car for months to order a car. As soon as the insurance cleared everything, I think the question would have come down to "what can I get with a manual TODAY?". I've learned to like the DCT, but I wouldn't get it again in this car. If there was another M2C with a manual available, I'd probably do that (there are about 4 or 5 at the two main BMW dealerships in town right now, so this is the most likely thing that would have happened). If that didn't work out, I'd look for lightly used M3's and 4's, or a new M4 if there was one, or I'd end up with the white GT350 that I test drove.

I dont have my M2C yet however i currently own a 2005 Honda S2000. Honestly i dont think there will be a car i WANT after i do get the M2C. Both cars give me exactly what i want as far as being a driver is concerned.

The M2C will give me the practicality i need with 4 seats and decent trunk space. And my S2000 gives me the raw driver feel i need with top down awesomeness when the weather gets nice. My S2000 is specced out for Autocross and the M2 will be taken to the track.

I love cars and usually im always thinking about the next one, however the S2000 has always been my dream affordable car and the M2 was always my dream mid-range car. If i HAD to choose a next car to jump into it would be a McLaren 720S however thats only if i had a ton of disposable income.
