i got apple carplay because my car was initially a dealer configured build and was already in production. i couldn't change it.
i figured, it will help with resale down the road. sucks that it's so crappy. i wonder if this can be fixed in the future with a firmware update.

If people are complaining about how carplay has buggy text read back, then don't use it. Use other things that are better at doing that function. idrive sucks when you have to use other apps in conjunction with navigation. Which doesn't come close to carplays. Use the strengths of infotainment system. It's a no brainer really, instead of complaining about its weakness. For $300, how are you complaining the service carplay gives? You are buying a $53,000+ car. I'm sure if carplay was so bad, major automakers such as Toyota wouldn't be implementing them in their lineup. Quote:
Trust me, automakers don't invest in millions into something that isn't useful! It's common sense so you can trust me! Last edited by M5XDRIVE; 03-28-2017 at 09:45 AM.. |

I know someone mentioned the text messaging features are bad but I've actually found it useful. I have it read me my texts and I make short replies with no problem. I wouldn't want to send a long complicated text, but short three or four word replies work great. Siri can be frustrating at times.

So my 16 HEA car has no CarPlay but does the Spotify integration. I wonder if they changed it with later cars.

Thanks for sharing, was thinking about retrofitting the new iDrive for Car Play in my 16. Guess I'll use that money for something else now.

That is a why I avoided the Apple Play ($300) and the Exec Package ($1400).
I think this type of car is a drivers car. I cant believe that anyone is using the radio when the cars natural "sound track" offers so much stimulating music. I have some early 911's and they have their speakers and audio completely removed and the silence, time to think, sounds are what makes driving the car enjoyable. No CarPlay problems here. Money well spent to me. I use Apple Music so that alone was worth the coin for me.

I love it and primarily use it for Maps, Music and Phones. I get out of the car and the music stops, meaning the music doesn't switch over to the phone and keeps on play. When I get in the music can start again without having to re-select everything or take it out of my pocket. There is one quirk where I get in and I have a radio station selected and shown but hear the music on my iPhone playing, but that's a BMW issue, I think. Still trying to figure out exactly when and why this happens. I get people like Waze but for me I have not had a problem with Maps. What I don't like is how BMW chose to integrate the car controls to interact w/Maps, which works similar to how iDrive works in my 2008 X5 (whatever version that was). Basically, for me it works. I think there are some bugs that I feel are related to BMW's implementation (maybe some Apple bugs) but damning the entire platform b/c of reading text (though it sounds like you have other issues you don't like) is like returning your M2 b/c it came with Conti instead of Michelin. BTW after the initial handshake all Apple CarPlay including phone goes over Wifi. You may be having some funky BMW Connected Drive / Apple CarPlay issue. Not sure. http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...53&postcount=5 Last edited by omasou; 03-28-2017 at 11:36 AM.. |

My dealer said most people shut it off within 5 days (told him he was crazy and then had to eat crow ) And I did refuse my car when it came with Contis . Ok, not 100% true, but the dealer did swap them out for me.

I think the voice text feature works fine and i find it useful. i use the nav for route guidance instead of apple maps because it works better. I like that it works with spotify for music. It is annoying though that it can't access spotify on its own like apple music. If i dont open spotify on my phone first the car play will just freeze if i try to play a song through its system initially. I give it a 6 out of 10 and considering we Canadians had to pay $700 or something like that for it I would give it a not overly impressed at the moment and in hindsight I probably would have left it off the order sheet... but split milk, whatever.

I know that. It is piped in on most cars these days. That is not the issue. I am looking forward to the times when the windows are down, my foot is all the way down and the exhaust is screaming. |

I added Car Play to my build. The way I look at it, the software is still developing and there will be additional apps which support it as other car brands begin including Car Play. The tech in the car won't outlast my ownership. I might as well get the benefit as I upgrade my iPhone every few years.

Actually, you can code out or bypass ASD entirely, and then hear real engine noise anytime you want. If you want to hear more, there are all kinds of options for increased real noise out there that don't involve the speakers or stereo at all--like downpipes that don't trigger CELs, or full or partial exhaust systems.

If you are following, my car hasn't been delivered yet. So no, not driving the car at all. And I got it for my daughter as her 335D was just sold bc it stopped being reliable. But what are you inferring...my family drives a lot. We are car enthusiasts. |

Did you try to completely "Delete the device" from both phone and car?
