I saw the M4 in person today now. Blah. Gross. Not going to grow on me.
Please don't do this to the G87.

Did you get to drive it? I have an invite to the M3/4 unveiling at my local dealer and its a one hour slot so I was hoping for a test drive, otherwise I'm not going. I'm registered out of curiosity, honestly I have no desire for a larger car...

Dude was trying real hard to be nice. I'm not dissing the M3/4 because I'm not going to be in the market to ever buy one, but the rear end is not BMW at all, and the sides have no character (lines/creases/anything). The grill is the least of my concerns

With the E92 or even the F82, desirability was ample, some like the E92 more and some preferred the F82 Desirability on the E46, 1M and M2C was massive If they fuck up the G87, might as well kiss the brand and the heritage goodbye Last edited by Karmic Man; 03-09-2021 at 11:27 PM.. |

G80 is a beautiful car. They have done an amazing job. It's the perfect M5!
I've never really liked any M4 as I'm not into giant coupes but this new 4 door is the business. If I was a Transporter with a set of rules it would be my vehicle of choice. The average person fears change. Dislikes change, then eventually embraces it. It's a basic human trait as old as time. |

Changes can be exciting if the execution is done right. For one the 991 GT3 visually is more beautiful than the 997 GT3 and the 997 GT3 is more beautiful than the 996 GT3... W205 C63 is more visually pleasing than the W204 C63 etc |

No. Not really. If you develop a product (that millions of people use) for a living as I do, you learn a lot about average people. They always come around though. Good job from BMW. Brave and it will be very successful for them.

Having said that, I'm interested in the M3/4 reviews because it gives a glimpse of what the G87 will be. Unfortunately, it seems most reviews are of the 8AT (which seems a step back to DCT, irrelevant for me though), but I'm very glad to hear most of them compliment how much better the steering feel + accuracy is compared to the F generations, as expected. Also glad to hear positive comments about the S58. Overall, I think there's definitely things to look forward to in the G87 IMO.

Sadly, the G8x would have been another memorable M car except for the front end.
I bet IND works their magic and fixes it.

Agree completely when new. Used in a couple of years, could be a good option for the 6mt. Fingers crossed on the M2 not getting all the quirks of this new m3 and 4.

Pre launch they already think there is a business case to rework the grill and overall bumper. Wow. I've never heard of that on a new release car before.

Then again, I feel like regulations have ruined the sports car industry anyway. OPF filters have ruined sound. Safety requirements have ruined designer flexibility and require cars to be much heavier (not saying safety requirements are bad, but they're often needlessly inflexible). Emission regulations are causing companies like AMG to put a 4-pot in their icon car etc... so maybe the M3 is as good as it gets in this day and age? |

I'm out already as far as the G87 goes. The few details that it's safe to assume "we do know" (slush box auto, sliding rear calipers, increased size & weight) are all deal breakers to me personally so I'll be keeping the F87 a little longer & looking elsewhere for my eventual replacement.
For those not concerned about such matters (which is likely most on here) I'm sure it will be a great car & no doubt much improved in many other areas such as better interior, more tech, more power. Unfortunately none of those are important to me personally & dont compensate for what the car will lose. Imo it's basically going to be similar to the changes we've seen between the F82 & G82, there are many that are embracing the wider appeal of the new G82 & there are equally some that are not prepared to give up what the more hardcore F82 offers. I'm not bashing the new G-series cars in any way it's simply that they appeal to a different market now & i personally am no longer part of that market.
