It's too bad BMW didn't choose a really great sports car color like Laguna Seca Blue.
I would agree about sunlight but also about seeing it in person. From your pictures, I get a different impression that from viewing two different times in person recently - the pictures convey a darker, more copper look than my in person experience.

In any event, there's no question that BMW should have not simply allowed a bland color from the 2-series palette, but since they are doing that, why not just allow Melbourne Red to be a choice also? It's not a great color imo (looks like they mixed milk in with the red to me), but it's better than SO. It's available right there in the same plant on the same line.

Agree.. +1

I cannot for the life of me figure out why the SPORTSCAR - the M2... does NOT come in red.. but the sporty car... the M240 .. does.. WHAT THE PHUQ!

Even more perplexing.. is that Sunset Orange has already been available on the plebian 2 series models for a couple of years now.. . so it is extra Not Special..

it could happen.. ever heard of HENNAROT (an orangey red ) on the E30 M3 ?

http://www.bimmers.com/m3/hennarot/

During the early days of production, the e30 m3 was available in a striking color known as Hennarot -- a provocative orange-red. Production of this color occurred for approximately the first half of the 1988 model year (through Summer 1987 production). The color was then phased out for another color, Zinnoberrot -- a more mundane red.

of course... there are no mundane reds these days on M cars.. only M SAV.. WHAT?

Looks very similar to Spice Orange on the MINI Roadster - I loved mine in this color. Very Copper in person.

Clean that Potato Lens... .

But I too prefer the original but you'll have to consider I own one.

It's crazy as crappy as those pix might be, seeing it in real light helps a lot.

Is this the same *official* Sunset Orange Metallic" from GM/Pontiac of yesteryear?

Has the same name.

How was the contrast of the orange interior with the seat belts in M colors, surely a clash here.
My order is for HS with orange but I am coming to the conclusion that the blue perforations maybe be better suited to the belts

I realize that this is the new direction BMW is taking with their lineup and that soon it will be commonplace, but IMO the current version just looks better. I would take the S55 but not at the cost of that horrible exhaust set up...I honestly don't mind the sound (yes my N55 sounds deeper), but that would be the first thing to go off the M2C...looks like a sow's belly. Luckily for new owners the M3/4's have been around long enough that there are some really good aftermarket options. As for SO...pass. It's terrible. There are much better BMW colours they could have chosen in Leipzig.

I guess offering Valencia Orange as they did with the 1M made TOO much sense to BMW.. I know it's a matter of opinion but SO is not the right color for this vehicle..

The ONLY positive thing about this color orange is it matches the orange interior trim, if so selected..

I agree again bro!
At least I had a Melbourne Red E92 M3. With the Fox Red on black interior. This car is like a DuraCell battery. Maybe, maybe frozen. It will be darker then though and it's pretty dark already. And that muffler is pretty gross, especially emphasized by the short black tips. Really on the fence about trading my '17 for this.

I have a friend that has this color... His license plate is Yammin'.

Agree that Sunset Orange is very close to that.. closer than even the Sedona Red I mentioned. It almost looks like Byzanz from the E36 days.

I hear ya.

I personally think they should have left the outside alone.

I cannot imagine how hard it will be to install PPF on that front bumper.

Awful, awful color choice. A nice red from the past M catalog would have been a great option.

Anybody else notice those dumb a$$ MF's drilled holes in the bumper for the plate holder? WTF?!?!

I'm not liking this color, but the new front end is kinda growing on me. Can't wait to see it in LBB.

Not excepted what it would like.. Offcourse the color makes the car, but still don’t know if I should move over to the M2C instead of the F80 based on those pictures...

Hopefully HS would look better
