When is start of production for MY2018?

Apologies if this is elsewhere. Does anyone know when SOP for MY2018 would be? And, historically, when are you able to take euro delivery of the next model year car?

I glanced around the M3/4 forum, and it looked like some people had taken July 2016 delivery of MY2017 cars, but I'm not totally sure about that.

Thanks

July 2017. Probably end of July Euro deliveries would begin.

I have the first allocation of MY '18 at a San Diego dealship, hoping for the sunroof. If not I have a '17 from El Paso.....both will be fun drives home.

I'm on the current list. Don't really need an m2 in January in new England. Currently wondering what sense it would make to take an April allocation, get a car in May, and see 2018s rolling out in August. Basically take a year's depreciation hit in 3 months. Wouldn't be as big a deal if it wasn't an lci year. This car, so much talk and so little driving!

Also of note is that the factory shuts down for most, if not all of August.

You're on a dealer's waiting list. MY '18 allocations won't be "allocated" until Q2 '17.

I'm in the same position, I've got the first spot for the next allocation. I'm deferring until a 2018 is available for the same reason. It's a weird position to be in, I've been waiting for this car for nearly a year and yet here I am passing on one.

There are always something to wait for. Are you sure you will get an LCI at all before it's winter again?

I'm thinking of deferring mine until the MY 2018 comes out. Silly question: how does one do it ? Just tell the dealer or does one have to think up a valid excuse ? If the factory has to retool for an updated version, doesn't that imply they'll do it during the august holidays so the first deliveries would be in september ???

I am in a similar situation. I am #4 on the waiting list for calendar year 2017. My dealership got 3 allocations for Jan-June 2017, so I just missed MY2017 by one spot. My dealership has assured me that I will get the first allocation (whenever that is) for Jul-Dec 2017, and has confirmed it will be a MY2018.

Honestly I don't give a crap whether I get a MY2017 or MY2018, and I'd be happy to jump up one spot and "settle" for a MY2017.

The wait is killing me...

I have a personal relationship with the GM, the first '18 is mine....semantics aside.

Just tell the dealer you're waiting until MY2018. There is nothing official about these waiting lists.

And Corinne, if you do this and free up your 2017 MY spot, I'm sure you'd be making someone really, really happy

No doubt about that ! Is there any way to know where one stands in the waiting list (how much time is left) when the dealer hasn't even had any information yet ?

If you want to know what number you are on the current waiting list, you can ask your dealer. However, until the dealer knows how many allocations they will get for a given period and when those allocations are, there is no definite way to know where you stand on the list in terms of how much time is left.

In my case, I have known for a long time that I was #4 on the waiting list for calendar year 2017 production. My dealer advised me last week that they received 3 allocations for Jan-June (2 in April and 1 in May). So I will get the first allocation for July-Dec. Given that my dealer has said they expect 7 allocations total for calendar year 2017, that means they should be getting 4 allocations for July-Dec. This leads me to speculate that my allocation, being the 1st of 4 for that period, should be towards the earlier part of that window. However, until my dealer confirms for me the exact schedule of the allocations (which will not be known until late May or so), this is just a best guess on my part.

Exactly the same. Depends entirely on the dealer. Someone reported that he tried to defer an allocation and they told him take it or you are dropped from the list! I suppose simply trying to force the sale or move on. The dealer could simply let the next guy on the list take the allocation. My dealer doesn't have a 2018 list. It's an m2 list. At this point, might also consider just getting a used one, but there really aren't any on the market and even though everyone here bullshits about not paying over sticker, virtually every used car is only offered at least at sticker. No fun to pay sticker for a used car.

At my dealer, if your turn comes up and you deffer, then you are either off the list altogether or sent to the back of the list. I was #7 on their list and pretty much waiting for an '18 allocation. Well, when they received their last allocation in September every single person before me on the list passed or "had to think about it for a few days". My SA called me to let me know and now my '17 LBB is on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic!!!! You only live once, so don't wait too long...

I am in a similar situation. I am currently waiting for my allocation. CA is confident he can secure me a MY '17 car by June at the latest with a very good possibility of landing a Jan slot if things work out the right way.

Does anyone know what time frame they usually announce the new features for the '18 models? I ask because I would be completely happy with a '17 model as is. I plan on keeping this car a very long time so the depreciation hit is a wash with either option to me.

Newer features like updated tail lights, etc. are nice but I wouldn't want to give up the sound of the n55 or the 52k msrp. It would take a lot to convince me to switch over to the '18 without knowing what I'm getting in to. If they keep the recipe mostly the same and only do minor updates to the lights etc I wouldn't mind either way.

True but I think my dealer has only received 2 orders for M2's. I'm the second one so I guess I could ask him if the first one has had any information.... I'll go and have a chat with him. I certainly don't want to run the risk of losing my slot altogether and having to wait another full year. I know I should just get it asap but if I can significantly reduce the CO2 tax by waiting a few more months for the B58 engine (if.. if) that would be cool.

That's not how lists work. If your GM friend is pulling strings for you, then maybe you shouldn't flaunt that information on here. It's slightly unethical and definitely in poor taste.

Ordering for 2017 is now closed.

SOP for MY18 should have been July 2017 but it appears that they have changed production schedule. MY18 SOP is now March 2017 per an internal memo:
