Sorry if i missed it, but if you are not the original owner would you still get a letter? Or can it just be scheduled with dealer? Looks like my VIN shows up on the search.

You probably should contact BMW and explain your situation to them.

I called BMW to make sure my winter beater is registered under my name/address. They informed me they pull the current owners info from the provincial registry for sending out recall notices. So, as long as the car is registered with state/provincial offices properly, you should get your notice.

It is true and it's unbelievable. They also told me not to sell mine to a private party until it's fixed.

Well my 2013 E92 M3 is affected. I inquired about buying out the car at the end of the lease which is 31 July 2016 and they told me they can't allow me to do this as my car was flagged, transferred me to a supervisor and they told me that my car was affected by the Takata airbag recall. Just got off the phone with the Service advisor and they told me that it should be taken care of by then....I'm hoping...I don't want a F8X car...

Almost every single one of our used cars here at Acura is affected by the recall as well. We now have no used cars we can sell. Sucks, but that's how it is.

I just received the following from BMW:

"If your vehicle is affected by this recall, you will receive an initial letter in April via First-Class Mail advising you of this recall; no action is required on your part at this time. You will receive a second letter when replacement parts become available requesting that you schedule an appointment to bring your vehicle to an authorized BMW center for service and repair. At this time, we are not able to provide you with a timeframe as to when parts may become available."

Are we sure the new cars don't have Takata airbags? I asked my dealer this question last week and they had to check with HQ. They said they would get back to me on this. Still waiting.

Takata is still making them & the manufacturers are still installing them. All this is going on with Govt approval.

I can confirm this, as I was also told this past weekend BMW will not buy back any affected cars until the recall is done. I was also told they don't expect parts in for up to 9 months. Now, if all of this is true, BMWNA is truly f*cked, because all they're going to be able to work is lease-returns. I was ready to walk out with an M235i this past weekend, and my dealer told me no dice. For their sake, I hope these parts get in quickly.

This scenario would bring more value to private sale e92 M3's.

I have a rental car. BMWNA is paying for it if you request it.

Found out about this randomly at my dealer yesterday when I had my 2013 X1 in. They certainly didn't explain the extent of what the airbag could do to me. I read that later at home... It was more an FYI of hey you won't be able to trade this in until it's done. And I said fine I'm not trading it for 2 years when it will be 5 and they said they don't anticipate having parts by then! No mention of a loaner....

I'm more concerned about having a car that's worthless until it can get fixed but there's no timeframe on when it will get fixed. The more I learn the more I don't like this at all.

I have two BMWs on order and two BMWs I was planning on trading in. Needless to say, the vehicles are in fact now worthless because nobody will make a reasonable bid on them.

My dealer did say to me twice to sell it 3rd party. Twice. It struck me as odd since I said I wasn't planning on for 2 years but now I know why they had that sell it if you can look in their eyes.
