Exclamation Service light comes on but way too early

I feel like this scenario will come up for more and more people due to more people working from home because of Covid. I would bet that the BMW owner demographic is more white collar than the average car buyer.

So my service light came on stating I needed to make a service appointment. However, it also said that I needed to make one, in 6000 miles. I believe it is programed by mileage and date. So in theory, I would have been at 20,000 miles by now as I've had the car for 2 years. However, I'm at 12,XXX or so. I'll give the dealer a call but I have a feeling that this is something that will happen to more and more people, especially BMW owners.

It's mileage and date - whatever comes first. And it definitely starts warning you a bit on the early side. My car is at the same mileage (2018 bought new in 2019) and had its 3nd year service in Feb - they did the oil, air filter, brake fluid and spark plugs at like 11,300 miles.

Technically it was 2 different services - brake fluid is at 2 years and oil/air filter/ are yearly and plugs are 3rd oil service i believe. Mine just happened to be due within a month of each other so they did it all at the same time.

100% agree. Low mileage oil change is every year. I am at 12,600 miles and have had 3 oil changes (one every January).

If you drive it hard, that will also shorten the mileage intervals.
