I switched to DCT too. I had this issue on my m235i it was pretty annoying. However, I do miss shifting gears!

I have this issue at least once per trip.
Only happens when going from neutral to first at a stoplight.
I'll make an appointment and have it looked at.

I didnt have time to take it to dealer yet though. I assume they would want to replicate the issue but it happens so randomly.... Im also curious what your dealer will say.

Ive slowly gotten used to going down to second then back up to first when im a stoplight now and that prevents it from happening.
Quick Update:

I took the car to the dealer on Thursday and the tech drove it around and encountered the very issue three times during his test drive and noted that it didn't fully engage 1st and popped out of gear when the clutch was disengaged. A new transmission was located and it arrived and was installed the next day. I picked it up Friday afternoon. The new transmission fixed this issue. There are 16K miles on the car.

which dealer did you go to? my car is having this same issue now, won't go into first about 3-4 times a day, always from a dead stop.

Basically the cogs aren't lined up, so won't engage.
Yep it's just the synchro. this will happen based on a whole bunch of factors. In neutral, disengage and engage the clutch. then start over. this will work as well. That said I have never experienced it in a new BMW. Mostly just older Subarus and beaters.

I think the clutch may be hanging a little. There was an advisory on the subject.

It's against Canadian law to sell a new car with anything over 90km, so I hope they charged you for a used M2C.

NewTIS used to suggest applying a specialist lube to the splines of the gearbox input shaft to help the friction plate slide and release from the flywheel.

noob question but this is inside the transmission? dealer said they not going to touch the inside of the tranny and just order me a new one instead. hopefully this one doesn't develop the same problem.

No - this is between the transmission and the engine. They will probably be replacing the clutch while the have the transmission off the car.
