Some sort of red. Either way it's interesting how BMW is trying to underpowered this to keep it below the m3/4. I imagine they tested it with more power and it came too close so they cut it down even more. Either way, with a tune this is probably going amazing.

I'm getting hairs standing up on the back of my neck thinking about this. Used M2 with a half cage welded in, TUNED M4 engine, DCT, Wavetrack diff, suspension upgrades and new wheels. Talk about a scary scary ride. Especially if you lighten her up a few hundred lbs. (interior parts and such)......

After reading some of the comments, I'm not sure what some of you thought the M2 was going to be...

I own a N54 car and a owned a N55 car. N54 is a "better" motor, particularly on the top end as the N55 peters out. I am sure the M2 will be great, and I am #1 at my dealer for one, but now I am seriously considering a M3. It seems to me that the price difference will be small and the performance gap significant.

Were people expecting 450 hp and 450 ft-lbs or something?

I think the torque figure is low as the car would not be able to hold a perfect handling balance with too much torque, it would oversteer too much, and that's why they keep the torque low, so the car will have a proper balance.

In other news, I think it's clear how BMW is playing this now. HP : 365 - Some thought it would be more, it's on the low side of the expected 365-375 Torque: 323 ft-lbs -11 more than the M235i. I'd bet the M2 is lighter but still. Colors: 4 colors. 3 shades of gray (AW, MG, BS) and a far out there Blue (LBB). Polar opposite choices, and only 4 in total. This paired with the recent comments and speculation (that I agreed with) about the M2 not being far above the M235i in terms of hardware seem to be true. And the limited color selection aligns with the idea that BMW is indeed planning on full production for the M2, rather than limited, but to be sure to keep (what I now think) will be a ~50k or even below 50k car from stepping on the M3 and M4 are the options like most have been saying. I think the next thing to expect is the realization of loss in luxury compared to M3 and M4 even in areas such as the lack of LED headlights? I hope not but it's not that big of a deal, I don't need tons of luxury. I'm just happy to hear anything about the M2 now because regularly being a passenger in my buddy's Mineral Gray M3 rather than cruising beside it makes me super anxious (and excited). Haha. |

Obviously we don't have anywhere near the complete details, but so far it looks like even the weight will be a cause for concern for some. |

Well if that is the best they can do HP wise, it's off the list. Not enough difference with a M235i. very disappointing. BMW doesn't want to join the German HP war for small cars???

But MG is seemingly everywhere right now on BMW's. I wouldn't want to get another gray car after my space gray but I do think it is a great goldilocks type of color. Gray colors have the best of everything I think. I understand a smaller palette on the M2 like the 1M had. I just wish we had several shades for the other M cars. The E92 had it for a little bit with lemans and interlagos, space gray and sparkling graphite, jet black and jerez... It would be nice to see that sort of trend return. |

Seems good to me. I don't remember the 1M specs being that far off from the 135I and that turned out to be a great car. So what's changed? Why is the expectation that every new car needs to be pushing 400+ hp? And if not it sucks?
