R&T Review: The M2 Competition Isn’t a Better M2, It’s a Different M2
I saw this up earlier today, surprised no one has posted it yet.
“In a perfect world, I’d have the normal M2 with the suspension dynamics, the gauge cluster, and maybe the steering rack from the Competition. None of the updated looks, and the N55 engine under the hood. But this isn’t a perfect world. If I had to choose one over the other, I’d probably go for the regular M2...” https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...n-quick-drive/ I’ll step out of the way now to let you all comment. |

"The Competition’s engine also sounds notably less exciting. I’ve never really enjoyed the M3’s or M4’s sound, so that’s not too much of a surprise. Both cars pump fake noise through the speakers, and you notice it immediately. But the normal M2 has a deeper growl without the generic rasp and engineered pops you get in the new car. It’s not like it sounds bad, per se, but it’s the opposite of memorable."
The original M2 N55 engine/exhaust sound: gone, but not forgotten.

There is a mistake in the article. When he talks about power delivery, he has it backwards. The M2 is much better for normal driving situations.

Cool. It's been a while since we've had an M2 vs M2C debate.

He is right. Regular M2 is a bargain to buy now, it is being offered at a good price. Remember in the beginning? People even paid mark up above the mrsp. I got my 18’ at a great price too so I agree what he says

Some guy in another thread posted that he just paid 49k and something for a 62k MSRP new M2. Get the deals while you can. I doubt that the M2C will be dropping much until the CS comes out.

His argument is along the lines of the transmission arguments of today with the manual transmission (M2) being more raw and involved albeit not as quick as the DCT (M2C) which is quicker and more polished.
I agree although it's nice for one of the big car magazines to finally put the two together and note the differences. |

Not exactly sure how anyone could come to that conclusion seeing we know nothing about the next generation M2. Lets be honest in that the M2 and M2C are essentially the same car except the engines and some small tweaks. The next gen M2 is going to be all new and it could be improved in nearly every area from styling, interior, ride quality, steering, handling, etc making the gap much larger.
