Agree with doug_999 regarding the lack of a controlled suspension rebound on crappy roads. Would describe it as a abrupt rebound or maybe bucking is a better description. Was excited about the M2c since there were early reports they returned the suspension only to later find out there was nothing different.

Regarding running 18's, don't think that will help much. Maybe it feels better with winter tires, but remember, winter tire compound is much softer. Putting summers on 18's, doubt you'll notice it.

BMW says they didn't retune the suspension but everyone says it feels different and better. The suspension part numbers are the same, but the steering wheel part number is also the same..... however it's been measured to be smaller than the previous wheel. I'm guessing the suspension has been changed then since virtually no one who has driven both say they are the same.

Yeah, have seen various feedback on this. Some say it rides better while others say it's the same. Maybe some of it has to do with the added weight of the M2c, but wonder if any of this has to do with the "washed car effect". Where after the car is clean and looking awesome you go for a spin and it "feels" like everything is better. A new car can have the same effect on ones perception.

Bushings were changed in the rear on the M2C I believe.

That's what we were all told, turned out not to be true. It's the exact same suspension, every part# is identical to the OG.

steering wheel is same part number, but measured with a tape it's a different size.

It’s no Cadillac but it’s also no worse than some of the prior BMWs I’ve owned (Z3MC, e46 M3, e92 M3) and it’s probably about the same ride quality as the Audi RS5 I traded in on it. I drink coffee every day in the car. Sometimes when you have a filled to the brim Starbucks cup you might have to pick it up when you go over speed bumps or around corners to stop it from sloshing around, but I think that’s pretty normal for most cars, let alone sports (sporty?) cars.

The 19” snow tires are definitely more compliant than the stock MPSS, but my coffee doesn’t care about that. I’ve never spilled my drink from hitting a pothole or from bumpy roads. FWIW I also have 18” 513m summers going on in a couple weeks so I’m interested to see how comfortable they are compared to the 19’s.

change to a wider tire. less stretch = smoother ride.

Ride quality is quite firm. Bit difficult to have a full coffee in the car as the slightest dips in the road will cause it to shake and spill.

The 18" winter tire (Michelin PA-4)/wheel set (bought from BMW dealer) is noticeably softer. Not day and night itself, but it pushes it to a point where I'm not bothered by the ride, can enjoy the M2, and want to take it, even on these rough, congested, boring local roads..
Recently I had the M2 trucked out from NJ to LA, then drove it up the coast to ~Eureka CA, over through NV, UT, CO (hiking in national parks in each) then back to NJ. It gave me a different perspective on the M2's suspension. It was perfect on most of the exciting roads in that area. Particularly in NV, UT and CO where they actually maintain the roads unlike in NJ. The M2 in that environment not only handles well on its firm suspension, it's a comfortable cruiser. I was wondering if the M2 would be more fatiguing, ride and noise, than our F30 in which we did a similarly long road trip from NJ to MT and back last year. It really wasn't: M2 seats more comfortable, though car noisier, but much better stereo, ride is fine on reasonable roads. It's about a wash fatigue wise v the F30 on such a long trip, but more fun to drive. In *some* places in CA and later on IL and WV particularly the roads were bad enough to make it a chore to endure the M2 at times. Also the pavements were very noisy in some places (CA-1 in Northern CA in places and US-54 in the TX Panhandle were examples) even where the surface was smooth enough. But generally the M2 did very well on this trip. Whereas, it tends toward uncomfortable on a significant % of the crap roads here in the NYC area of NJ, especially on the 19"/OEM Conti summer tire* combo used on this trip.

*which caused a bit of nervousness when a May snow storm hit in CO, we fled south to NM.

The E90 335 had run flats and a horrific ride (to me)

My M2 made me cry uncle after one year. I'm now in a 18 M3 and it is sooo much better. Chicago roads suck.
Very interesting how different we all are.

I agree that the Chicago roads are terrible, but I find that our OG M2 seems to absorb the imperfections in a more docile manner. We hit a decent sized hole in the F80 on Monday and I thought I had flipped the car.

To the OP - we are basically splitting hairs here - both have a firm but definitely doable ride quality for DD duties. And to me, there's no appreciable difference between the adaptive suspension settings on the M3, for what it's worth.

I switched over to MPS4S. Came from stock MPSS's and did notice less road noise and more comfort, but I think it has more to do with tire size. I did go up one size from stock. 255/275/35 instead of 245/265/35. No rubbing on stock suspension, slightly more ground clearance, noticeably quieter and comfier. I think it's perfect for the streets.
