MAF Sensor Harness installed wrong from factory??

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Every f80/2/7 I have seen has a normal maf harness orientation (top of harness plug angles to the left). Mine’s angled to the right, when plugged in.

1st one broke at the track because it’s pressed against the charge pipes when fully connected into place.

In the first photo, I disconnected the maf harness because its STILL rubbing against the charge pipes after the repair. I had a bmw tech do the install (I have the full eventuri intake & charge kit). Genuinely confused. has anyone seen this before? How do I fix this ??

harness orientated to the right (only goes in one way). I unplugged it b/c the top of the harness clip is plowed against the charge pipes.

close up of my maf (ignore the missing screw; starting taking things apart)

correct orientation (not my car)

correct orientation (not my car)

Does the MAF have the correct PN when checked against realoem?

Go to BMW spare parts and check a shelf item. I have no idea if it changed but maybe somehow you got a ring in.

Sorry I re read your post as I misunderstood what you were saying. The orientation of the MAF looks correct but the orientation of the plug isn't. I checked my car and it is the opposite of yours like u mentioned.

Did u buy the car new? Asking to see if you have a piggy back in there that ties into the MAF as the plug colour on mine is black not aqua.

yes exactly; my harness orientation is wrong.

everyones plugs in like yours except for mine - that is what's mind boggling and hadn't paid attention to it until after the sensor broke.

Yup the car was bought new.

I had the plug changed after it broke; the replacement plug is indeed blue (originally it was black/grey like yours).

Here's how mine looks plugged in:

Can you compare to the stock intake MAF housing?
Was it rubbing before switching to the Eventuri intake?

That is the million dollar question. I do not remember the orientation as I had a tech do the install soon after I got the car. Trying to get him to get at it when time frees up.

My friends M2 has the same setup but he is not tracking; I think having more engine movement on the track vrs on the street exacerbated my issue. That is a theory lol. We are wondering if this is isolated to a certain batch ‘20 M2 Comps.

I will post the part number off my maf harness plug shortly maybe that’s the issue

Looks like whoever installed your intake kit damaged your MAF and hastily substituted. No way would it come from the factory with the wrong one.

Unscrew it and check the date stamps.

Alternatively they swapped the two over and they are both wrong.

According to realoem the MAF for bank 1 and 2 is the same part number on my M2C so doubt they are swapped. Also the MAF only goes in one way and has an arrow on it for air direction.

If you pull the MAF and they are genuine then since the car is new I would work with the dealer as it is not normal etc.

Good luck!

I think the blue plug needs to be rolled over 180deg. the actual harness is the same part #

*UPDATE: yes the harness/connector housing was reversed. It needed to be flipped over 180deg.*
