Planning to change my oil between intervals too, dealership uses 5w30 I believe while an independent shop suggested 10w60.

Any take on that guys? What are you using?

Wtf. Tell your indie shop to jump off a cliff.

The manual states LL-01 oil which come in a few viscosities: 0w30, 5w30, 5w40

Your indie tech is a hack job

Don't listen to that Doug guy - it is $100 to transfer and $700 to transfer and get the brakes covered (I think!)

are you tracking or adding a lot of miles on it?
If people are doing this and not tracking the car, then I "think" they are not only wasting their money, but heck, not doing the environment a favor either. But the way to know is to send that 5,000 mile oil in for an analysis (I used Blackstone Labs for my rear diff that I did early and found that I was wasting my money by doing so.) Alas "it makes me feel better to do early" is silly without any proof of it doing something (other than playing tricks on your brain).

10w60 is a VERY thick oil that BMW used to recommend for their performance cars. That has changed - maybe due to CAFE? Either way, that oil really should not be used in the winter (IMHO). I personally would go by what the car calls for.

Thanks for confirming, I wasn't sure about 10w60 either...I guess they have some experience with older M cars, hence the proposal.

Will stick to the manual then

Hi all!

Relatively new M2 owner (bought in july '21). Is there any maintenance/service needed at the 3k mi mark?

No. Unless it's been sitting for a while and the mileage doesn't reflect the time since it last had a brake fluid/coolant/oil change.
