Dealer screwed a software update

Long story short. I was having some idrive issues and the dealer updated the software on the entire car as a fix.

I get the car back and they tell me it's the latest 2019 software and maps for the car.

I get in and the nav says loading. Click on the window and it's asking for a USB with correct activation code. They try three times then blame BMW for sending them the wrong software for the car. Think I lost carplay too.

Didn't have the time or the patience to let them try again this evening. Plan to find another dealer who may be able to mop up their mess.

Any other options I could try to correct the issue like esys ?

Any help or direction appreciated

Oh man that's unfortunate, I hope you can get that fixed.

IMO I would not touch anything and just let the dealership keep trying to fix it, the reason being is if you touch it (and attempt to fix it with Esys or ISTA+) they could try to pin the blame onto you and at that point it'll be a huge battle and you may lose your warranty.

Also I would not bring it to another dealer, I would try to keep bringing it to that same dealer you had initially and ask them to start a PUMA case with bmw thus initiating a technical discussion with engineers/technicians in germany on how to solve your issue. Because if you bring it to another dealer they can play the blame game, so IMO I would try to keep taking it back to the same dealer until there is absolutely no other option then take it elsewhere, but before doing so make sure they contact Germany.

I think you need something called an FSC key to enable Navigation. This used to be possible on a USB key, and you could get this from the dealer or on the grey market from some users on here.

I messed up coding my iDrive unit in the early days and had the same issue. I didn't want to have a dealer fix it because it was my mistake, so I paid ~$50 to someone on here and got the file I needed to get it going again.

As F87source said, I'd let that dealer fix it. It actually should be a REALLY easy fix for them.

Yup just like you said he'll need a navigation and apple car play FSC code, but the issue is that in 2018 or 2019 (I can't really remember) BMW disabled FSC codes being input into the car via USB, so it's kind of weird that the car is asking for a USB drive leading me to believe maybe they botched the software update.

Anyways just wait for the dealer, you wouldn't want to have to pay for their mistakes.

+1. Needs the FSC reloaded for Navigation. Double-check Sirius is still there also. Both are easily fixed.

If it's only navigation problem it could be done without patching - using OEM FSC certificates - pretty easy and fast fix.

Similar issue happens to me today on my 2018 M3.
How did they end up resolving your issue.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread… Just curious what they ended-up doing? Thanks!

You can either use patch FSC or get OEM FSC
