The production numbers we have so far. Production numbers are not released until EOP.
F80 M3 - 34,677
F87(N55) - 29,470

During the F80 M3 production the M4 was produced at much higher rate than the M3. We will get numbers when F82 is out of production.

For example the E92 M3 was produced at 4:1 ratio compared to the E90 M3. Expect M4 units to be 3-4x the F80, plus additional years of production.

The M2 production numbers will not be anywhere near M4 numbers when production ends for both F87 and F82.
Thanks for posting.

They've made a bazillion M2s already. Have saturated the market. What's another bazillion!?

It is after all the biggest selling M car these days so a volume leader for the M division. They want these everywhere
I hardly see M2's.

I see M4's absolutely everywhere.
I sell these cars. There's like one M2 for ever ten M4s out there
I have no doubt.

Thanks for clarifying things.

I don't think that is the issue here. What we're seeing is a trend that BMW enthusiasts have been complaining about for years. Having an ///M logo on a vehicle used to feel special. It doesn't feel as special anymore.
You're reinforcing my point. The existence of higher-end M cars isn't diluting the brand; it's apparently diluting the "special" feeling the ego-centric people used to get from buying any M. Now that BMW offers higher trim M variants, all of a sudden these people seem to feel their base M car doesn't feed their ego as well. They appear to want to feel superior by owning the "ultimate" version of their vehicle model.
But that is the market. Like do you think M will make one model per serie, when you have another brands like Mercedes AMG doing alot of categories in every serie the same thing?
Of corse BMW M need follow up the market.
And if the people think (ok they have alot of models and bla bla) , what M model nowadys dont have quality?
And if you think better that is good fot customers, because in the future we can have more competition and technology between all of the brands.

I'm guessing 'no airbags' means it's not going to make it to the US, not until it's maybe 25 MYs old..

Who has a Cliff's Notes-like link on the qualification required of importing a track only vehicle?

Who told you that?
Sauce?
Read the numbers. All facts...do a search on sales figures for F80 M3 and M2

Over 22k M2s sold in N55 form in just 2.5 model years. 33K F80 M3s sold total in 5 model years. The M2 will easily surpass it by the end of its production.
hmm, guess they sold all the m3s here then because I see them all over the place but not many m2s. Wonder why they sold most of the m3s in just my area?

It is replacing the M240iR, the M235iR and M240iR is raced in many series in the US. I don't see a reason why the M2 Racing will be any different. BMW will sell you one.

What's thisssssss? BMW copying Mercedes for the 100th time..? Be your own company.

Just release the M2. LCI it in three years, and end it's life after six. How hard is that? How come the e60 M5 was the last true M? No special edition crap, no competition crap, nothing. 100% of the product at sale.

It seems like too many, but there are 24 models to choose from when buying a Porsche 911, something for everyone.
Not really 24 models. And then You'd have to include the base 2 series to compare apples to apples.

CT
C
CS
GTS
TT
TTS
GT3
GT3RS
GT2RS

You can't really include AWD and cab/coupe as different models because that's all the other models really are.

Keep in mind Porsche only has 2 cars and 2 SUVs. As opposed to the plethora of BMW models.

So much negativity in this thread. I'm just excited to see there may be more part options for our existing M2/M2Cs! But then again, BMW Motorsports parts cost an arm and a leg, if you could even get a hold of them.

Let's just appreciate that BMW is actually still doing really cool things, like develop and build actual racecars for you to buy and race.

Great to see, I would certainly like to own one!

A little sad to see so many saying that the M is being "diluted', I understand what you are saying. Shine and dine isn't exactly what it used to be. From the performance perspective, the Ms are only getting better!

I'm fine with many variants of the M2. More people can enjoy the M2 in some form, rather than one iteration in very few hands.

Agree, as long as Bmw can invest money in making it lighter and better for track, that's all I really care!!!!!

Yes hopefully the M2 CS is in the 3,400 pound range. Even the 911 weighs more these days.

I am sure they can shed some weight and stay in very low 3400lbs or maybe dip into 33's

I am sure we can save 100lbs just from lighter wheels, CCB ( this might come standard ) and specially the seats.

Well you're wrong because the M2 has been THE biggest selling M car for the past 2 or 3 years. Time to learn a bit...you do realize the number of years matter right? Lol

The F80 M3 has been on sale for 5+ years. The F87 M2 for 2.5 and they have similar total sales. 5 years of M2 sales will destroy the F80 M3 sales numbers.

I never said total M4 sales i said per year and yes the M2 sells more per year the past few years than the M4. It was even in the official BMW press releases that the M2 was the biggest selling M car.
