current value
Trying to determine the current selling value of my M2. Prices seem to be all over the place. I have what I think is s nice setup but so much depends on finding the right buyer. I have a 21 comp 6MT, 27K miles, sunset orange. I have only done a few things to it. The big ones are AS SSK, AA EL midpipe with resonators, and M-performance carbon interior bits. I have a deal in place at the dealer but they aren't offering much.

Take a look at BaT hammer prices, this should be a good barometer of retail pricing …

Check out Carvana/Carmax sell feature just to get a baseline.
I’d recommend taking off some of those parts before trading it in (if you have time or care enough) |

Used cars are worth what someone’s willing to give you, and rarely are two used cars the same: whether it be color, mileage, options, condition, location, transmission, mods, time of year being sold, economy, etc. Can look at BaT or C&B, but the reality is prices on consumer auction platforms can be all over the place and you don’t know the full history / seen with your own eyes / etc to know the full picture (see above). And then variance in fees, where eBay/BaT/C&B have differing buyer and seller fees to take into account. For a true baseline, as Ab28 said, check out carvana and carmax and go from there. They’re gonna give you a rough wholesale trade value. Can also check out KBB/Edmunds/NADA for trade/wholesale … but also gotta look at the retail prices dealers are asking on their websites. Especially with many dealers (not just carvana / carmax) shipping cars these days, dealer is unlikely gonna give you the same price they see another dealer trying to sell for within a few hours of their location. Example: hypothetically let’s say KBB/NADA/Edmunds says your car’s trade is $50K? Well, if a quasi-comparable car is listed at another dealer for $48K, unlikely that $50K number is gonna happen cause they’re gonna want to post it for $53K and then their argument to you is “your car would be the most expensive in the our area / won’t attract attention / etc etc etc” Of course, all depends on the dealer and how much they want your business. Selling and not replacing … not as much interest vs maybe giving you more on your trade if there’s also a buy from you involved, cause now they’re moving multiple inventory. Flipside, the dealer may already know someone in line waiting for a car like yours, so they may go in a little heavy even without a buy from you, since they already have a buyer lined up behind the scenes. |

If you have aftermarket mods, get ready to watch that value fall significantly. |

A statement along your idea might go something like….if you have aftermarket parts, you might make more for them by going back to stock and selling the parts used. Last edited by Mahduece; 02-14-2025 at 03:50 PM.. |

‘19 M2 manual w/36k miles - CarMax offered $37K, so I figure it’s around $42K private party. (I didn’t take it.)
As you’re likely aware, the aftermarket parts don’t add any value except maybe when you’re negotiating private party. They can sweeten the deal, but don’t expect them to add much value. Last edited by BMW003E; 02-16-2025 at 01:00 PM.. |

Of course then they sell a car that has usually been driven hard, leaving the next owner to deal with the wear and tear of their often poorly judged experiments. Personally, I would never buy a modded car. |

OEM 763M wheels with like new pilot sport 4 or PSS, with OEM M performance steering wheel and OEM M Performance carbon bits, installed by someone that kept their car mint and was something buyer was interested in anyway…that could bring value Replica 763 wheels with worn cheap no name brand tires, with aftermarket knockoff steering wheel and faded/yellow knockoff carbon pieces (note: not to be confused with higher quality aftermarket pieces) that don’t even fit properly due to lack of installer care and with no original parts included … Would likely be value detriment instead of value add Agreed with other person above that said mods are likely favorable only on private sale. A dealer certainly isn’t gonna care |

Return all parts back to stock unless they are true M Performance parts. Having aftermarket parts almost always tends to hurt resale. When shopping for used cars, I really focus on if there are aftermarket parts or evidence of tapering. I don't want to own someone's "race car" unless I knew them personally. I immediately pass on any listings showing the car with aftermarket parts, even visual parts. Why? Because I assume that the prior owner did more mods but returned to stock.
I love modding cars, but I don't want someone else's project. My 2016 M235 6MT was Stage 2 and had many aftermarket parts plus a ton of M Performance parts. I left on the M Performance catback and the MP LSD which Carvana gave me an additional $1800 for the parts (I didn't have the stock parts anymore) and returned everything else to stock. Carvana gave me $22800 for car with 77K miles. I sold the other parts for over $2500 and saved a few for my OG M2. Return to stock and get top dollar. A 6MT in Sunset Orange is a highly desirable M2C.

I would like to say that I purchased my car in February of 2021 for $63K and I could sell it now for $53K.
