Unpopular opinion
If you don't track/autocross your M2 you bought it for the wrong reason.
Take this with a grain of salt, but from my personal experience, every time I meet an M2/C/CS or any M owner they act as if they own a Picasso. All they talk about is how "rare" they are, how they'll appreciate in value, etc. I always feel like asking - Is that why you bought the car? I get the "babying" your car, I do that too, but ultimately this is a car you buy to push its limit - and if you think the "canyon runs" is pushing the limits, you've never been on the track This is not really a runt but more of an encouragement to use the car as intended, you'll have some much fun that you'll forget about appreciation, manual vs DCT, M2 vs C vs CS... Out of curiosity, how many of you do any track/autocross events with their M2? |

I have tracked it but it's not something I would want to continue doing... I enjoy driving it out on the streets as this fundamentally what it was made for... a GT car.. and I drive it quite hard.

Second, you'll get smoked by anything dedicated. Three, a decent bit of mods are required to feel like this car isn't going to fly off the track... For autocross, it felt way too soft for me, for track, it felt way too bouncy... on the street it felt just right.

I did once, and don't see myself doing it again. Frankly, if you are looking for a track car, this probably isn't it. As mentioned above, there are better dedicated track cars. As a GT type car, it's fantastic, and that's really the reason I bought it.
Just my opinion, but I do like how different owners use the car for different purposes. I truly believe that's a positive. |

I think it is a fantastic street car. I think of my car as an 'adventure machine' where I can go and explore the area's around me. Its fast, capable and comfortable and that's just perfect. No you'll never take it to the limits on the street but that's not the only way to enjoy a car. |

I am going to challenge your responses Well for 1 this car doesn't really fit any competitive class that I am aware of... Wide range of track events that you can do - from HPDE to Road Racing. Second, you'll get smoked by anything dedicated. The point is to push your car to the limit. Three, a decent bit of mods are required to feel like this car isn't going to fly off the track... Depending on what your level is, it takes time to become good, at least for me, and in time mods can definitely be added. I don't think there is a lack of funds for mods in this forum anyways For autocross, it felt way too soft for me, for track, it felt way too bouncy... on the street it felt just right. I just finished the Autox season and the car was a complete blast. Nothing compared to any type of street driving - but that is just my personal experience. |

I was not necessarily referring to making it a track dedicated car, but now and then push your car more than what you would on the street. |

Aren't M cars by definition GT cars? They are a jack of all trades, masters of none (or few), an are meant to be dailys. So there's no harm in enjoying them while carving mountain roads, or driving to work. To each their own, but I dont have the time to go to regular track days, although I plan to with someone else's car.
And no, I dont act like I own a Picasso or baby my car, so these stereotypes dont apply again |

What a load of crap. 1. You don't have the authority to say why anyone should spend their money on anything, nor did you manufacture the car, or sell the car. 2. If I wanted to track my car I'd use my Exige, which is vastly more capable and rewarding. Get over yourself. |

I’m glad you clarified that, I would NEVER have considered buying it as a replacement for one of my track/autocross cars. Too heavy and soft. I specifically bought my M2C for the road. It’s a great road car – comfortable, enough power, good handling. That said, I’ll probably put it on track next year one time just to explore the limits safely. For people on the fence about putting their car on track, most HPDE events have a novice class where you can drive comfortably at your limit. It’s a great way to learn about your car! And if you’re concerned about a wreck, you can insure the car with Lockton or other track-day insurance companies. |

I don't track my car, but I drive the hell out of it and when I get a chance I rip on it. Plenty of rock chips and I keep it clean as much as I can. These cars are meant to be driven including the rest of the M cars. I have been to the M Track Days event and I have to say the M2 is a perfect car for the track. You feel so connected to the track compared to the rest of the Ms. In the end is all about the driver/owner. We all have different opinions.

I haven't tracked it....yet. However, I've put it through the ringer on many mountain roads.

Don't track it cause it's my daily driver and I'm too dependent on it. Fun to drive around San Francisco and up and down highway 1. Perfect length to parallel park in my driveway and around SF in general. Perfect width to fit a set of golf clubs horizontally without taking out any clubs. Beauty and a Beast.

Nope and for a few reasons.
1. I am too chicken to push a car this expensive to its limit on track. 2. Tires are real expensive for this car.. it's also pretty big, pretty soft. 3. For a price of premature complete suspension replacement, I can get myself another 330 beater, gut it, tune it, and get a set of track wheels for it. The M2 is a great daily driver. Quote:

I do 1-2 track weekends a year. Even as a lease, but now that I've decided to buy it out and keep the car, I hope to do mods and more track days next year.
