Anyone running turbosmart bov?

I’m about to to a charge piipe abd was going to swap the cheap plastic dv and replace it with the turbo smart . For more reliablity ,

Should I get the replummed , or the open port ? I do like the faint sound of it .

Any drivability issues or idling issues when doing the open port version ,?

I run the Turbosmart VR11 Dual Port.

I love the noise it makes. Very subtle under light throttle and much more noticeable under heavy throttle. Reminds me a lot of my Greddy RZ BOV on my sr20det.

No issues

I just installed the plumb back onto my og yesterday. Very subtle noise compared to the dual port. If taking on the task solo, be prepared. It's no easy feat, even with the Turbo inlet removed. (I changed both at the same time)

I chose plumb back because I still have dreams to own a JDM build that goes tsu tsu tsu.

Cant award myself that sound till I make those dreams come true!

I have the full plumb back and it's quiet. You only hear it after a hard pull then completely let off throttle. I like it subtle. It's German not JDM.

Functionally isn’t the plumb back better? Retains more of the pressure. That’s what I have but it’s still in the trunk with the inlet.

Yes you will get less turbo lag and more throttle response (especially on up shifts) if you recirculate vs. vent to atmosphere.

But some people like the vent to atmosphere sound so that is why those options exist.

Currently i have the stock DV and when i let off the gas at around >4k rpm i get get loud (to me)... trrrrrr.rrrrr.rrrr like when we're trying to vibrate our tongue. I dont know what it is but i like it. However I'm personally not sacrificing performance over any sound.

I also have the plumb back version and like that it remains on the quieter side unless under heavy load then quickly letting off the throttle you might hear a little noise. For me since I also replaced the TIP (MST v2), TIC (ER), and charge (ER) pipes I hear more of the "air flow" now as all the restrictive/awkwardly ribbed plastic piping is gone. I still have the stock intake with an afe filter so in my eyes or to my ears it sounds great just enough to know but the focus will always be the noises coming from the rear .

My Dual port got a lot louder after my BM3 stage 1 compared to stock which was very subtle.

I run the VR11 plumb back for about a year now. Car is FBO and has been running BM3 tunes and been to the track 6 or 7 times since installing the Turbosmart BOV.

Unfortunately, it threw a code last week (electrical harness) and had to be replaced. It's a pricey swap as the labor involved is significant. The failed part is going back to Turbosmart. Hope they refund the cost for the 2nd one I just bought. Not sure what happened unfortunately...

This is why I really like the GFB unit, they upgraded the weak bits of the stock diverter valve with an all metal design, they upgraded the design with the air transfer hole on the piston so technically it can hold so like "100 psi" of boost - to the point where the motor will blow long before the valve fails. Then they added the sport spring to increase throttle response, and the best part is they retained the factory pierburg magnetic solenoid which is bullet proof reliable - hence why it's used by oems.

So the final package is upgrading what is weak and keeping what is reliable. This is why I didn't go with the turbo smart unit.

Wish I didn't read about this failure, my original valve is in UK and car on ship on way to NZ

Guess I can buy another for not too much!

This is the first time I've heard of an issue with TS - so I wouldn't say it's a trend.

Also, I think there was a comparison between the GFB and Turbosmart, and the Turbosmart actually provided measurable differences in performance.

Yup I saw what pure said as well, but they didn't provide data iirc so I'm not sure how much the delta was.
