I already bought the A3B4 oil from Castrol (Black EDGE bottle) and saw another one in GOLD but only ACEA C3. That's an inferior oil right? Both has the MB 229.51

It is not inferior just designed for different application (diesel and gas engines equipped with particle filter devices, DPF and GPF).

Thought I would share. I got 7 quarts for Penzoil Platinum Euro via Walmart online for $54 shipped and on top of that Penzoil is giving a $10 rebate if you buy 5 quarts or more of Platinum. I think the rebate is good till the end of the year

You can get the quakerstate 5L bottles and save money that way instead of buying the individual 1L bottles.

That's what I do, I just buy the 5L PPE 5w40 jugs and it is alot cheaper that way.

I see. I thought so long as it passes MB 229.5 since it's the most stringent.

Between the 0w40 and 5w40.... is this just splitting hair at this point? Given a choice, I'd take the PPE 5w40 but w/o it? QS-E 5w40 is better than the PPE 0w40? Again are we splitting hairs at this point?

I ordered a box of the 5L container Castrol EDGE.

I believe QS-E 5-40 is the same as PPE 5-40, it's just rebadged. The spec sheet I saw even came from the Shell website.

Correct, that's also why they call it the Pennzoil-Quaker state company. All owned by shell, so the 5w40 should be shell helix ultra pure plus 5w40 iirc from what edy said.

It is good oil since it does pass MB 229.5, however ppe 5w40 passes that + Porsche a40 + bmw ll01. So it's got even more certifications on top. Then I think the base stock is different largely too, which allows PPE 5w40 to have a higher overall hths rating too making it more stout.

No, it's not like splitting hairs in this case. PPE 5w40 is significantly better than PPE 0w40, it's not even close. If you were to choose between PPE 5w40 and Quaker state euro 5w40, it's the same oil buy whatever is on sale that day (moto master euro 5w40 in Canadian tire is also PPE 5w40 and shell made Incase anyone in Canada sees that on sale and needs oil asap).

Porsche A40 is the only specification that has dedicated track testing requirement. It is 8 x 1hr test on testing rig in this video (rig is used to test oil sump system etc.). While A40 doesn't have deposits, Noack etc. requirements on par MB, or oxidation requirements on par BMW, it has this particular requirement:

Second video doesn't work.

i guess with those 3 approvals, liqui moly 5w-40 has LL01, 229.5 and A40 also...tempting with FCP

But despite having all 3 certifications, liquimoly is still inferior to PPE 5W40, Castrol edge, Motul Xcess gen 2 5w40, etc.

Just because it has the same certifications doesn't mean they are all the same. I get that fcp euro has a life time warranty, but even so I am still not tempted because the oil is inferior to the alternatives and since oil is the life blood of the engine I am personally not willing to cheap out on it.

By cheap out on this case paying more to get less, if warranty is not factored in.

fair enough, i just would imagine that in most street driven cars the difference in the long run of like 150-200k miles would be nominal no?

Yeah I'm sure the difference isn't going to be huge, because liquimoly did pass all the same super stringent test. But to me im just not a fan of boutique oils.

I've had this oil put into my car today. Just to reconfirm - it's absolutely safe to put this (5W40) oil into the M2 N55, right?

The engine seems to be running about 5°C hotter, I assume that's ok, but just wanted to make sure.

Thicker oil=more resistance =more heat. Downside of better protection.
But at really high temperatures it will actually transfer heat better into surrounding.
