No, if you do not have 6CP Apple CarPlay Compatibility. Otherwise you maybe able to go with a third-party solution.
The attached describes the required hardware before 6CP. When not factory-equipped with CarPlay™ Compatibility, vehicles must be factory-equipped with Navigation and either 6NW (Wireless Charging), 6NP (Enhanced USB and Bluetooth), or 6NS (Smartphone Integration / Enhanced USB and Bluetooth) in order to be eligible for purchase of CarPlay Compatibility via the My BMW ConnectedDrive Store. That's what I have in the LCI M2. But your question is on M2C, which I understand comes with Apple Carplay, at least for one year (I could be wrong there). I think it costs $80/year after first year. That's how BMW is marketing it in USA. So, don't really understand what you're asking. |

CarPlay for BMW changed to a subscription service in NA. It's no longer offered with a one time fee of $300. You now get the first year free and it's a subscription service afterwards.

Seems like all it is is hardware that communicates with the phone. Similar to Sirus hardware. Sirus charges for it, but no car manufacturer does. |

It's just software that runs on the iDrive system. When it was not subscription based you could either pay $300 up front or if you didn't get it and later decided you wanted CarPlay you could simply purchase it via iDrive and it would be activated.

Yeah, sw vs hw. Principal is still the same. Maybe they have to update the software periodically, but I have never recognized Ford doing that. If they do, they sure do it ‘quietly’

It's not a one time, done program anymore. It's constantly changing and BMW is just passing the cost along. I'm not defending a corporation but I get the reason behind the rhyme. |

The fact that there's a annual fee and it's integrated into the iDrive interface, that's now going to get updated wirelessly, ensures that it's always going to have the latest software, which would include revised versions of CarPlay. |

Could also make the argument that Apple doesn't charge anything to update your iPhone so why charge for this. IMO it's just one more way to make more $$$ and more importantly turn these transactions into yearly profits to show how profitable they are year over year. |

I guess they see the cost of transferring new software updates via the vehicle's built-in 4G AT&T network as perceived value and cost.
Or maybe I'm just a sucker but either way; CarPlay sucks and wouldn't use or pay for it anyhow. I don't even like using that "Phone" feature in my iPhone. I tried deleting that green APP but it won't disappear |

They don’t really need to justify it. Unfortunately, many traditional purchases are moving to subscriptions. If you don’t want to pay for it, then don’t. I won’t.
