EvasiveF87: My LBB OGM2

Hey everyone! After 12+ months of lurking both on the forums here as well as on the facebook groups I finally picked up my attainable dreamcar.

This is my 2017 DCT OG M2. The vehicle is optioned with Exec + Factory carplay and has a few goodies already on it which I’ll list here.

- Fabspeed Catted DP
- FTP Turbo Inlet + CP
- Eventuri CF Intake
- M Performance Exhaust
- Fortune Auto 500 Coilovers
- CF Aero all around + Diffuser
- Full Front, Roof, Doors, Trunk Lid, Half Quarters covered in STEK PPF.

Picked her up at 36,500 miles and paid $37,000 USD.

In my first week of ownership I had the height dialed in to my liking and a brand new set of Pilot Sport AS4’s installed.

Genuinely in love with this car and excited to learn more about the platform. I’m coming from the land of subarus, my last vehicle being a GR86 so this is a massive upgrade.

As of now, yes.

We don’t get crazy winters here in Northern VA but they do go a little crazy with the salt.

May try to find a cheap rock box for the winter, or I’ll just send it with coilover covers from Fortune Auto.

Just tossed a new set of Pilot Sport All Season 4’s on it about a week ago so my planning has been to daily it at least 85% of the year.

I’m new to euro cars, coming from japanese cars so I’m just trying to care for the car best I can.

Update time for the M2

As of writing we are just above 39,000 miles. Since my last post a LOT has happened with the car. Some good, some bad.

Lets start with the bad.

During a post purchase inspection I found that the vehicle had a weeping differential pinion seal. This was replaced by RRT Automotive in Sterling, Virginia for around $1,000. If you know you know that this is a pretty labor intensive job. They had to keep my car overnight, so all things considered I'll take it.

Said pinion seal was replaced with a revised BMW part number that from my understanding most LCI vehicles already have equipped. Seems like a common failure point on a bunch of E9x F8x platform cars so that was just bad luck.

This is where things got interesting. When I picked the car back up from the shop I noticed my exhaust sounded quiet. Almost clogged like someone had shoved socks inside of it, coupled with a terrible smell. I suspected maybe my valves were stuck close or they forgot to plug back in the controller for the valves. Not the case. I then thought maybe something was off with my downpipe, swapped it with a VRSF Catted and again not the case.

Fast forward and it turns out that (possibly) this car was tuned when I bought it and the battery discharged during service - causing the DME to freak out. I suspect the cars tune was just extremely off causing the bad smell and weird sound. At this point I parked the car for a week.

Now onto the good!

The issue I was having after picking the vehicle up from service was instantly resolved with a Stage 1 flash from BM3. While flashing I went ahead and disabled the cold start sequence for a small QOL improvement and overall I'm really enjoying the overall feel of the tune. I never wanted to go the power route on this car and never planned on tuning it to begin with but I do have to admit that the car seems to run "healthier" Could be a placebo, who knows.

In addition to this hiccup sorted, the car has received a bunch of mechanical love and is pretty much entirely caught up on service. Big shoutout to my buddy Adam over at TruCraneMotorsport in Aldie, VA. He operates a small indie out of his home and if you're in the area I really reccomend hitting him up for your installs and service. Great guy.

Car now has brand new: Spark Plugs, Differential Fluid, Coolant, Serpentine Belt, Belt Tensioner, Belt Tensioner Bolt & associated pullies, KIES Motorsport Crank Seal Guard + Crank Bolt Capture, Michelin pilot sport as4 tires.

Overall still happy with my purchase hiccups aside. Nothing else modification wise planned for this thing until my fabspeed downpipe sells, then I'm ready to pull the trigger on a BMS Intercooler to have ready to install in the spring.

I have a new set of akebono low dust pads I was able to get on a closeout deal for only $120 for the FULL SET which was an amazing pickup but again, something to tinker with in the spring.

Plan on daily driving this through the winter here in Virginia. Really excited.

Nice and enjoy daily driving it. I don’t daily mine anymore but I did for nearly 5 years in NJ. I tried the summer, all season, and winter tires on it. The all seasons are not good in the snow aside from a light dusting, just beware if you do get any snow.

Thank you!

Which all seasons did you run? Thankfully here in Virginia our winters are typically pretty tame.

We do get ice / slush / snow but no where near the amount you guys get

Been a little MIA. Unfortunately the recent snow storm that we got has had my car quite literally stuck in the garage as our driveway is still covered in ice 2-3 weeks later.

(Where I live is an uphill gravel driveway)

Installed some lighting upgrades to the car, for starters a set of $95 CSL DRL Housings that came with the boards pre-installed (eBay) and also coded out the eyebrow lighting as well as amber bulb as sidemarker.

Following that I installed some M puddle lamps as well

Quick little update / mod

Removed the front kidney grilles which FYI is a major pain in the ass, especially if you have big hands like myself.

Bought myself a 12" x 5' roll of gloss yellow 3M wrap from amazon for $19.99 and decided to wrap the side bars on the factory V Brace.

End result looks pretty good, happy with it for the first thing I've ever vinyl wrapped. I'd call it a solid 3 footer. Post heated the vinyl about an hour after applying it with a heat gun and tossed the factory grilles back on.
