Thx Poochie. I use either silicone (which I assume is what the product shown above is) or Gummipluge, a German rubber conditioner recommended (or at least, used by) BMW.

Forgive my spelling if I did it wrong.

I don't think you can. You use RealOEM to find the part number and then order it from your favorite supplier.

ya, RealOEM is for finding the right part number and you go order from whoever you like or where you can get the best deal

I had a little difficulty installing the door seals (got them from ECS tuning, $30 for both) because I was trying to do it upside down. This thread was very helpful: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...5&postcount=80

People are hilarious!

The guy wants to make his car just the way he wants and he gets shot with everything from ‘go buy a Buick’ to ‘why did you choose a “sports” car.

Yet half of the others on here go and throw stiffer, lower suspension, m bits of this and that, narky diverted valves to make their BMWs sound like ‘80’s Silvias etc, etc.... on their cars to do exactly the same thing.... make it just the way they want because it didn’t quite come out of the factory, the way they wanted.

I haven’t read all posts so I hope you find or have found your answer and you’re able to make your car just as you want. Just had to respond with my amusement.

Ok, just saw you indeed found a solution. Good on you for sticking with it and making it right.

I bought some 3mm thick sound deadening material and cut them in shape of the floor mats and put them underneath to see if it did something good.

I actually think that it reduces sound in some frequency, of course not to the extent as many of you did but a little is enough for me.
Oh, and I also put some in that area of the trunk where the battery is where that lid rests so to speak and also in the bottom of the battery area where that "emergency repair kit" is.

Best thing though, put on brand new Michelins PS4s and they also made an improvement in slightly reduced tire noise compared to the conti3s.

Word..

Companies spend millions on R&D to help reduce NHV (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) but because some random guy wants to make his vehicle subjectively pleasing, he gets ostracized for not being 'hardcore.'

Humans...

While I love a good engine note or slight exhaust burble, undesirable mechanical sounds and vibrations can emanate from a car's oily bits, such as a howling radiator fan, a shuddering when idling at traffic lights or a harsh, wince-inducing thump from a pothole.

If restoring the sound deading reduces these undesirable traits; color me a square because I'm all over it.

I'm wondering the same thing...the drone is quite unpleasant. Probably the worst thing about the car and I wonder if it could in fact damage one's hearing after repeated long trips. I have the MPE.

When involved with turbo miatas. Those of us that didn't like the unrelenting drone would add a high flow resonator prior to the muffler. Made the exhaust much more pleasant. I actually prefer a nice quiet ride. It may not be an option to add something upstream of muffler, but could be an option if there is room.

This was with 2.5" SS piping from downtube back. Vclamp flanges were in place. Can have the exhaust place make you a straight piece as well in case you want to quickly remove resonator.

I have the MPE and the increased sound insulation hasn't stopped the drone, but it has reduced the volume of it.

Downside, of course, is when I open the MPE valves to let out my inner redneck, it's not as loud (inside the car) as it was.

I like my car to be quiet but fast. I'm not into waking up the neighborhood etc.. That damn drone becomes maddening after an hour or so. I would be ok if my m2 sounded like a Tesla in exchange for that damn drone to be gone.

I still have most of my sound deadening parts in a box. Lol. Year and half later.

Splicing the stock resonator to the MPE reduced the drone to very minimal level.
Doesn't bother me at all anymore.

That is the drastic final step before switching exhaust. I was trying to avoid welding a stock resonator in there but it seems it's either that or add 50+ lbs of sound deadening material.

The insulation as described in this thread is no more than 5 or 6 pounds. You'd save more weight by never filling up the tank more than 3/4.

I can stand the drone for a while. On those rare longer trips (more than 1/2 hour) I can use ear plugs or my sound isolating in-ear monitors (AKA ear buds, although mine are much more than that). Stupid looking and illegal, but I really hate ripping out that exhaust that cost me so much extra money when I bought the car.

The regular OE exhaust that I experienced at BMW performance centers never had that drone that I noticed, but to be fair, it was rare that I ever let the RPMs drop that low when I was thrashing their cars.

Could you have vband clamps added to the splice and stock resonator. Then you can swap out the resonator with the original splice.

That's an interesting idea. First I will have to check with my mechanic and then I would have to get my hands on a stock resonator or exhaust

Anyone who has added this care to tell us which pieces they felt quieted the car the most? I would love to order everything and do it at once but I am pretty time limited these days.

In the next month, I hope to do one or two changes at a time. Front to back.

This coming weekend, I will add the under-hood (bonnet) insulation. Assumes delivery this coming week.
51487221993
+ 18 (?) plastic pins

The following weekend, I figure to add the fender to body seals
51487300693
51487300694

If that goes well, then maybe I will add the rear seat side panels afterward.
41007294289
41007294290

The trunk seems to be where more than a casual approach to these modifications will be required. Patience and so on.
51487296055
51487296056
and
51487334357
51487334358

I can post a note. Seat of the pants observations, I guess, after say 200 miles.

Decibel X? Hmm. Open to suggestions. There is a comment in the App Store that exposes my ignorance here: " Misleading app name, free version measures dBZ only "

If this does not help, the MPE is likely to be replaced by a Remus of Dinan system. The drone ... :-/

As @GregoryK mentioned earlier (page 7 perhaps) he felt that those panels that cover the big holes to the side of the back seats made the biggest difference.

I did those (using the OE parts) and the trunk insulation bits. I also did the front fender seals. I did not do the engine hood. I have since put Dynamat in the doors. Oh, I also put dynamat over the rear wheel wells before putting in the panels. Hopefully knock down the volume and resonance of rocks hitting.

I would suggest that, since the rear seat backs are up most of the time for me, those side panels would be the biggest improvement, and they are certainly the easiest to install but probably the most expensive. Second would be the rear insulation. Third the fender seals.
