It's been ages since I was in NM. I equated it to I80 from Reno to SLC - is it better than that drive? I kind of wish pickup could be in CA so I could drive through Tahoe again

I haven't done that entire stretch of 80, so I can't compare. I did I40 through NM. What I found so interesting was paying attention to the topography and vegetation as you move from what's clearly the plains on the Texas border, to the uniquely New Mexican high desert to the more characteristic Arizona-type desert we think of when we think of the Southwest. That's all.

I jumped to final assembly yesterday.
I also just requested a back-up of the date to October 23 (my birthday) or thereabouts, after reading that Germany is ending its own general travel restriction for its own citizens on October 1. A date later in the month should provide time early in the month to see what's happening. https://www.ispo.com/en/markets/germ...ning-1-october

Hopefully the confluence of Germany loosening it's own citizen restrictions, combined with lighter leisure travel in October will yield more favorable entry considerations for the 'mericans. |

Yea, the only thing I'm seeing though is that they are going to change the quarantine to mandatory for 5 days, regardless of negative test on arrival, then test, then release if negative. I think that starts September 15.

https://www.omio.com/trains/zagreb/munich Just seems from the DB rail site that you'd need to be outside the US fro 14 days. https://www.bahn.com/en/view/home/help/corona.shtml Of course Croatia could become an unsafe country at any time, requiring quarantine in Germany.

Also, here's what I got yesterday evening re the winter wheels/tires from the ED tire folks:
"We sent the VIN number to BMW for them to let us know which tire sets fit and unfortunately we do not have anything for this very special model - it is a competition model and can only use a 19” tire size. FYI a Winter tires set to fit (rims + Winter tires) here new costs 2850 Eur in silver and 3315 Eur in black." Damn M2C brakes! Anyway, I am trying to explain to him that I don't want winter tires a la blizzak, but rather I'll just buy a set of (tires only) Continental DWS or Michelin PSAS 3 in M4 sizes (easier resell), leave them on the car, and hope BMW either doesn't notice or doesn't care. That way I'd get the needed M+S and the wanted Y speed rating.

I got news from my CA. The car has finally left Bremerhaven this morning onboard WW vessel Manon, which is currently in the North Sea off the coast of Netherlands. Scheduled arrival in Newark, NJ is September 20/21. MyGarage status also shows it as "In Transit". Was becoming worried since neither Raven nor contacts at AG she forwarded had any idea what's going on.

I just heard this morning that my date was moved to October 29th.
If you are dropping the car off in Munich at LOGINOUT they didn't inspect my tires last time (2017)...they just make sure there are no personal belongings including the warning triangle, first aid kit, and any electronic devices left in the car. www.loginout.de/de/dropoff/bmw_european.php Last edited by M4CLT; 09-10-2020 at 10:03 AM.. |

It hurts, but I just hit send on the email to Raven to move to a direct shipment rather than ED. This journey started for me in April 2019 when I asked the 5 closest dealers about ED on the M2C. At the time they were low on allocations in the NW and nobody was willing to give one up for ED. I reached out to a few other places and (long story short) in February 2020 a local dealership was able/willing to get an ED allocation. We opted for May delivery so we could align the trip with my birthday. And then COVID. And then the cancellation of the ED Program. I've pushed the delivery date out two times since in order to keep the dream alive.
Looking at the current situation in Europe and the US I can't imagine travel opening by the end of October. If it does open by then so much of my plan was on passes that will be closed and roads in non-deal conditions. For those of you continuing to hold out I hope I am wrong! I'll continue to watch the situation and the discussion here. On the other side I am starting to plan a NW road trip in the spring to enjoy the car how I had hoped to in the Alps and along the Mediterranean. |

don't use all-season tires in Germany. if it actually does snow you are going to regret it. buy proper snow tires. pilot sport alpins or Swedish snow tires you can't pronounce.
if anyone is looking for a manual blue m2c there is one available since i turned it down. now i have #1 spot for G80 M3 at msrp.

A custom German-style front plate might be in order for this car.
