Car Shimmying in Corners
Noticed a strange handling characteristic in the OG LCI M2 recently.
I’m getting strange sensation which feels like the whole car is shimmying and fidgeting when taking my foot off the throttle while mid corner. As stupid as this sounds (I know about weight transfer when lifting off the throttle mid corner etc) but this is not while pushing the car in the slightest. This is when taking corners at slow speeds (15-25 mph). My foot is barely on the throttle, but when lifting off the car seems to become extremely unsettled briefly, followed by a strange rubbery whirring sound, which I cannot locate to either front or rear. I have been struggling with this strange whirring noise and what feels like a rear wheel locking at slow speeds from time to time, often with very little steering lock, meaning I don’t think the diff is doing much work when it happens. It often happens when crawling in traffic and just as I may come to a stop and then touch the accelerator to move forward again. The car is on a brand new set of SC7’s and I lowered on Eibach springs. The car doesn’t pull when driving in a straight line and otherwise feels fine. Very difficult noise/sensation/characteristic to put in to words so apologies if it’s a bit of a mess! Anyone have any thoughts on what could cause this? The unsettled sensation almost feels like an old E92 I had when it had a failing rear shock absorber, only its missing a lot of other symptoms, plus it doesn’t explain the noise? |

Fitted the springs back in November and the handling sensation probably started a month or so ago I will be getting an alignment done soon to see if this will help Should also add that back in February I had the GTS steering, diff and TCS flash done..reckon this is related? |

Could be a disintegrating diff. Have you checked your fluid lately? Does the same thing happen when the car is back to stock?

https://youtube.com/shorts/8Jqdcl030...Qcssm8BVZBhVYK It’s about half way through the vid, the creaking/groaning noise I’m familiar with the R53 and that was caused by incorrect gearbox oil which would cause the diff to groan. As I mentioned though, I’ve recently changed the diff oil to the updated correct oil as stated on realoem Any ideas? 🤔 |

Got a few BMW specialists around, just dreading the large bill that’ll come with investigation for an unknown amount of time. Was really hoping I could figure it out and, depending on the problem, sort it myself, however that’s looking unlikely now!

Currently questioning:
Wheel bearings Front subframe stiffening plate Gearbox Gearbox mounts Diff Diff mounts Wheel speed sensors Yaw sensor (if there even is one) Yet to scan for codes but will do it today on my lunch break I have noticed traction control interfering under harder, but not flat out, acceleration in perfectly dry conditions where it wouldn’t have done a while ago |
