More manuals sold = more manuals made for future models (hopefully).
So, you guys just need to buy the manual option even if you don't like it....take one for the team you selfish bastards. |

Even thought I'm all about the manuals, DCTs are cool as hell. And I assume that anybody that has a DCT M2 is probably secure with themselves unlike dudes like me that need that 6 speed to pad my fragile ego and what not.

If you drive correctly (as you would a manual), brake, select gear for corner exit, corner, accelerate, shift up it is a flawless and very satisfying transmission. Extra level of engagement if you use the shift lever instead of the paddles. Which incidentally Porsche removed in the 992 but brought back in the 992 GT3 realising their mistake. |

However, we are comparing a transmission that can shift AUTOMATICALLY with one that must be shifted MANUALLY. |

Anyways.... I have a lot of thoughts on this in regards to the M2 and M2C.
TLDR: The MT in m2 isn't great, and if you don't find the DCT boring and you're not a forever only MT person or searching for nostalgia, the DCT suits the go-kart nature of the car better. I don't mess around in auto mode. I own a DCT OG M2 with the N55 since 2017 and DCT 2011 m3. I drove the DCT m2c at M school at Thermal, semi recently rented a MT M2C for a weekend, and test drove an M2C DCT that I decided not to buy. I've loved my DCT M2. I find the gear changes to be responsive, feels mechanical relative to a torque converter, and it kicks like a mule in sport+. The sport+ shifts feel a little bit dangerous, but adds to the excitement. It is a bummer the M2 doesn't allow independent shift settings like the s55 cars but it is what it is. I should start by saying I didn't grow up driving MT cars. I've driven my dad's cars and friend's but I'm not nostalgic for a MT like many of you. The MT M2C I rented for a weekend had the auto solutions SSK on it and it felt sort of plastic, but not rubbery. So right off the bat I'm hoping for rifle bolt feel, but it's not quite there. Still I'd do this mod 100 percent if I had a bmw MT. The clutch is vague. The gearing is longer which lets you be stupid in 2nd longer but the top of 3rd is very illegal. Also of note there's enough torque and power here over the rev range the car never really feels slow even if you're in the wrong gear like a high revving NA car might. To me it didn't really seem like I was way more connected to the car, or more fun, more visceral etc. What it did was give me more to do and make me much more aware of what others were doing on the road because I had to think a bit more and anticipate what gear I needed to be in if some dope in front of me decides to cut me off. I guess you could say it was perhaps more satisfying but not more fun. As soon as I got back into my car was zipping around like I was in a go-kart, partly to do with the torque hitting sooner on my tuned n55 and partly the gearing, but the DCT just lets you go nuts with uninterrupted power. Now the M2C DCT you get to program it how you want. It seems more refined, doesn't kick as hard on upshift, which I'm sure is practical, but less exciting than mine. I really noticed the lack of increasing power once you get to 5300 rpm on the stock DCT m2c but not the MT m2c. I think that's because I've got other things to think about on the MT and the gearing is so long it's much less likely I'll rev it much over 5300 anyway outside of 2nd. At the moment I wish I could trade my M2 for a MT M2C for like 6 months without losing money, just for something different, but ultimately I think the DCT is the better transmission if you're the type of person who likes a DCT. If this was a Honda or Porsche MT maybe not. |

Not sure if this is the right post, but do any manual drivers feel like shifting into third gear a bit frigid in the first 5 mins of the car running? Like the car doesn't want to be in third, but after it's slightly warmed up it slips in easy. Usually happens during the colder weather.
Or am I the only one who gets this?

I usually go stick over auto always, but it also depends on the car.
For us it's almost worse bc both the auto & the stick are world class. Personally I go stick bc I tend to miss the feeling of shifting gears. I do think there is room for an auto car if you had more then one car. There's a certain type of pleasure I get in mindlessly clicking the paddler shifter while mobbing through gears. It's a unique experience & certainly one worth enjoying as well. I'm currently in the M2 with a stick. I'd love to add the F90 to my lineup! That'd be quite the dynamic duo imo

Not sure why so many people call a DCT an automatic. It is definitely different than the ZF8 BMW uses in most BMWs.
It is an electronic assisted stick that can be put in an automatic mode. |
