Disconnected Battery *Accidentally closed boot* - URGENT

Hi All,

I was installing a new steering wheel, and ofcourse disconnected the battery for safety reasons (don't want the airbag to go poooof). But I then closed the boot by accident!

I can now no longer open the boot as it appears there is no manual mechanism to open this!

Anyone else ran into this issue? How do I Open the boot again?

Fold the seats down, crawl into the boot, pull the glow in the dark thing that opens the bootlid.

The rear seat fold-down releases are in the trunk, are they not? Catch 22.

Open the hood. Use jumper cables (I think there are connection points up there). Then you should be able to open the trunk.

Yep, did the same thing on my 235. There is a terminal under the hood for you to jump the car. I had to call bmw roadside for the assist once the scrambling sense of paranoia subsided.

Ah yes, even though the battery isnt connected, the terminals supply power (just enough) to enable electronics in the car and this was enough to open the boot..
My car was parked in the garage, so we had to use 4 jump leads connecting each other!

& The folding seats latch is in the boot, I tried that one!

Thanks all!

If your car features the through-load system (option code 465): lift the armrest between the backseats to access the boot.

Does this car not have a physical key hole hidden somewhere in the back? Every car I've seen with electronic trunk releases have a key hole somewhere that will open it.

You can't release them from inside the car too!?

Every car I've ever seen with folding rear seats can release from inside the cabin. Some of them also have a way to release from in the boot... I'm surprised that BMW doesn't have both.

(I don't have my M2 yet, so sorry for the inaccuracy!)

My Jaguar doesn't have a release from the inside, but it does have a mechanical key hidden under a cover next to the button for the electrical release, so it's not an issue.

I believe the reason there is no release inside the car, is for security. If you put something expensive in the trunk, and it could be got to easily from the passenger compartment, that wouldn't be very secure.

The only cars that I remember having folding seat access in the passenger compartment are those where the trunk is accessible anyway because it's a hatchback / wagon etc.

The 2 Audi sedans in our family stable (A4 & A3) have releases on rear seat-backs - but they can be locked with key - thus providing valet-proofness, while still allowing access from inside the car. Works better (IMO) than BMW's trunk-only solution.

There is no Arm rest on my car, there was also no option for this, the button in the footwell won't open it as again its electronically controlled.

Literally you have to jump the car to do it, and if you locked the doors as well, you'll have to manually open them to open the hood (Thank god thats mechanical) and then jump the car!

No other options! Thanks all!
