Auto dimming mirrors - driver side only ?

Just notched that the auto dimming feature only seems to be on the driver's side exterior mirror on my car (RHD, UK car). Is this consistent with everyone else?

On my E90, both driver and passenger side had the dimming feature. Not sure if this is just a cost cutting measure by BMW ?

Unfortunately you already answered your question. It's normal and a cost cutting measure by BMW

Oh nooooo ! I am fed up with being dazzled from behind by tail-gating Audi drivers and was expecting BOTH mirrors to be auto-dimming. Bah ! That is extremely annoying.

Well done sir ! It did seem rather strange that only one should work. But maybe it's only the oil sheikhs who get both ?

They should not be able to keep up with you Corinne, so those type of mirrors are just a waist!

Only the drivers side dims on mine so I suspect that there are local market variations.

Mine are both auto-dimming, I can't imagine that wouldn't be the case everywhere. OP have you had your car checked at the dealer? Its possible that the car is supposed to have it but for some reason yours isn't working properly.

I didn't even know the side mirrors dimmed. It just occurred to me that I have yet to drive the M2 at night.

LOL, I aim my Audi headlights directly as your passenger side rear view mirror with a laser beam!

I am pretty sure all three dim in my car? Now I will have to check.

By the way the camera in the front sees the lane marker surprisingly well in the rain!

It looks like to enjoy them both dimming you have to:

1. have a LHD;
2. have an "oil sheikh" (Gulf), Korean or USA version.

Here are part number links (of May 2016), FWIW:

1. M2 EUR RHD external mirror glass;
2. M2 EUR LHD external mirror glass;
3. M2 USA external mirror glass.

Extremely strange, it looks like it's always the left mirror that's "restricted", no matter if LHD or RHD (driver's or not!). There must be some mistake.

Many thanks for this. I need to query with the dealer. My E90 dims on both sides, so annoyed the M2 doesn't !
