Rear Left Turn Signal Malfunction.

Hey guys, I recently got this error on my 19' M2C. I parsed through the forum and see people are saying

1. Lack of ground for LCI tailights(?)
2. Relay issue(?)
3. Software Issue(?)

I do not think its a Software related issue but who knows? Maybe BMW Engineers use spaghetti code.

Please advise on what to do next! I believe replacing the light is a band aid fix.

Thanks!

I have been told that BMW now warrantees the taillights for 7 years or 100,000 miles. I would let BMW Service fix the problem.

This is great info, but I do wish we (as a community) knew (as BMW does) what's actually causing the issue.

I had the problem with my right side (condensation as well), BMW replaced the entire light under warranty, no more issues, but IIR I've heard of some people having issues even after full light replacement.

It's possible that they might've just reuse code for non LCI. And the function "indicatorRearWarmMonitoring" is probably taking in parameters for non LCI and not for LCI lights.

But idk.. LED's do not get as warm as Halogens.. So maybe not? But idk. Potentially, BMW knows this might be this issue, but refuses to acknowledge it as Software Updates might have a lot of red tape. But idk haha. Possible that they fixed this in the new M2s

I got mine used.. Is it a fair assessment that I should just call BMW give them my VIN and ask if I have the taillights warranty? Or is that something that I must buy separately

There are many threads on this issue but I will save everyone some breath:

1. There is apparently an extended warranty for all tails for LCI 2 series.
2. The coding to disable bulb check is NOT a complete fix, but it can buy you a lot of time before replacement is needed.
3. No one knows the exact root cause, but replacement of the tails does fix the issue. However, since all the lights become defective over time, it will just happen again.

I glad to hear the news about the warranty. I’ll have to look into it. I hope the BMW service departments know about this issue by now. I told them about this a few years back, and they didn’t seem to have a clue about it, and said it might be my add ons causing it (radar detector and dash cams).

This is a clear factual issue, but the frustrating part is they don’t seem to take it seriously if you tell them you read it on a forum (this goes for othe car manufacturers as well).

My right rear tail light will occasionally show a fault and not flash. It will only last for a few minutes, then the fault clears. Annoying!

I first read about the 10-year warranty on the rear signal housings in this thread here on BIMMERPOST:
https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30028188

I’ve since read about it in a few other threads, so it seems to be a real thing. I’d love to see some sort of TSB or other official documentation about it. For now, it seems to be the stuff of whispers, hopes, and a good relationship with your SA.

This does not have to do with the turn signal malfunction.

go to http://bmw-rp.com put your VIN in there. Mine had a Rear Panel Light or something like that there. The dealer also has this info.

I've had both tail lights replaced on my M2C. I was told the issue is caused by the different voltage requirement on the faulty units - they actually still work but the check control system thinks they've malfunctioned becasue of the 'incorrect' voltage reading it's getting. Frustratingly when the first unit was replaced the dealer insisted on waiting until the second unit caused the 'malfunction' before replcing that one under warranty too.....

Just scrolled several threads on this issue and can’t find a definitive answer ….

Does this rear light issue potentially affect all (F87) M2 and M2Cs, or just certain years? Seems to be more common on the earlier years. I can’t find a ‘21 that had this problem, but maybe I didn’t look hard enough.

Effects all LCI M2s and all M2C and CSs.

Anyone have the documentation stating that these are to be replaced under warranty. I told my local service manager(where I bought thecar) about this and they played dumb and wanted 800+ to replace the tailight assembly

doesn't look like the 2018 LCI M2 is covered. not in that PDF and the VIN check doesn't come back with anything covered.

I understand there is a service bulletin that covers the taillights.
