Yeah, I know where I live so just having the nav set to your approximate locality avoids putting your exact home address in the nav for someone else to find.

If you've already started the directions to your destination, it's too late to save it as a shortcut.

The 1-8 shortcut buttons in iDrive save the action that is currently highlighted on the screen, NOT the current screen. So to save navigation directions to a certain address you have to do the following:

1. Navigation
2. Enter new destination
3. Fill out the city, state, house number, street. DO NOT hit "start navigation" or whatever it is called.
4. Highlight "Start navigation" or whatever it is called with your cursor. Do not click down on the iDrive controller.
5. Press and hold the 1-8 button you want to save to this destination.

Or you can start the nav to a destination, then after that it will be in the previous destination list, highlight it there and then press and hold the favourite button you want to save it under.

I love all the ideas in this thread. Based on copying a lot of you, here's what I've come up with so far (still need something for positions 6 & 7):

1 – CarPlay now playing
2 – HP/Torque
3 – Engine Oil Level
4 – Tire Pressure
5 – Comfort Ventilation
6 –
7 –
8 – Screen Off

I wasn't able to set buttons to specific CarPlay apps — I got the "unable to save" error message. I tried both having the app just highlighted and also fully launched when trying to set the button: neither worked in my '18 M2.

I used to have wife kids numbers programmed into 3 buttons, but since I use Carplay mostly those are not functional. Need to redo my list and will need to browse this thread again to get ideas

There is a work around to get google maps/Spotify as a short cut.

First go to navigation (i believe) and you'll see CarPlay. You can set it as a shortcut then

Same for music/spotify. Go to media and see all the options and you can set the short cut there.

Does anyone know how to make idrive default to something like presets? Everyday I have to hit my preset shortcut to get there even though this is always the last thing it's on when I turn off the car.

I only use #1, and I program it to show the tire pressure/temps.

The M2 is weird man. It does it for everything. I had the same issue with it going to all channels instead of presets. And now with CarPlay it wont default to the screen every time. Its does random shit that is really annoying

Damn I just noticed that too…lol it defaults to whatever it wants when I turn on the car lol

Use them quite a bit for Huffman's AA iDrive app. 8 turns the screen off. 1 is the map.

I kind of just want it to default to my "M2" settings so I don't have to hit it everytime I go for a drive.
