Password to connect phone to car

recently purchased a used 2018 2 series. when i try to connect my phone to the car, it requires a password. since i don't have the previous owners password, is there a way around this? I tried resetting the profiles, factory defaults, and that didn't help

thanks

I think I have had this issue too. If you mean Carplay, you first have to connect the phone to the bluetooth connection and then in menu go to the devices section and then switch to Carplay. For some reason you cannot get on the Carplay connection without first linking with Bluetooth in the beginning. Hope this helps. If that doesn't work let me know because I think I've resolved the issue before and would just need to hop in my car to remember exactly what I did to fix it.

If you're referring to the Bluetooth phone paring, it doesn't save any owners password, the system auto generates one and it shows you it, on the screen.

I've connected my phone to about 30 different loaner cars already, I'm positive their isn't a specific password saved.

You're doing something wrong. Try it again..

+1

Normally what you do when you connect is the idrive displays a password that you confirm when you see it pop up on your phone. So if the idrive displayed password matches the one on your phone you know it is a correct pairing and you click accept. On some other phones you might have to reenter the pairing code displayed on the idrive on your phone.

Like poochie said there shouldn't be a password lock.

If you really are concerned about any data or settings left on by former owners you could just use esys to reset all modules and ecus to factory states, but familiarize yourself with esys before doing any such thing to prevent yourself from breaking the car.

On some cars I recall the password being user set each time. Try 0 0 0 0.
And then match that on the other side of the pairing.
